how do I know when pityriasis rosea is healing?

I was diagnosed with pityriasis rosea almost 6 weeks ago. Apparently it takes 6-8 weeks to disappear, but I keep finding new spots every time I shower, new red spots seem to pop up. The first ones I got seem to keep changing. Does anyone know what these spots are meant to look like before they just disappear?

I have the same problem with the white spots left behind. They have never gone away and get worse when the rest of my skin tans. The steroid cream that the dermatologist gave me made the white spots worse also.

I've had pr for around 5 weeks now and thank god it is finally showing signs of healing. I was one of the rare few where it expanded to my neck and face. Having it on your face is no fun trust me because then everyone notices it. I took a ton of immune boosting vitamins. Vitamin C, Fish Oil, Vitamin A and a Vitamin B. I was using old spice deodorant and body wash when I got pr and even though my doctor said what body wash I use had nothing to do with it I threw that shit out and now just use dove and what not. Any allergy pills help Claritin Benadryl etc. Do your best to stay cool like to the point to your cold. You'll see signs of healing once the rash starts getting really dried out and little white flakes start flying off you. You probably aren't going to want to go out much so for like two or three months just because the rash especially if it decides to move onto your face.

I'm horrified by the number of people going to tanning beds for this condition. Tanning beds can give you skin cancer: pityriasis rosea, while annoying, is harmless. Mine went away after about seven weeks (fortunately I had virtually no itching). If you are worried about it or it's not healing, see a doctor, don't self-medicate by going to a tanning salon. If you think your doctor is being too dismissive, see a different one. If two or three doctors tell you it's not pityriasis rosea, they're probably right, and you might have been chasing the wrong treatments.

I went to my doctor after i found a few large red patches on my skin thinking they were bites they were itchy but not majorly. The two doctors i saw told me it was fungal and gave me some creams for that, the spots where not going down at all about two weeks later BOOM about 50/80 spots all over my belly arms and legs back and neck were covered. I couldnt do anything. Wearing a bra was painful! I was covered in calamine lotion i went to the doctors again, they gave me some Dermol cream to wash in and some e45 but the wash made them red and god did the e45 make them sting the itching was so severe i was in tears every day. This lasted around 2-3 weeks i am now in my 5week and we have had some sun here and i have been sitting in the sun for 10-15 mins a day. I did want to try the sunbed but i was to scared it would make it worse, The rash is not itchy at all now but the lumps have spread and gone white, i still carry on with the creams and it no longer stings they come up more red once creamed but go down after. Im hoping its on its way out. But my advice is get some sun carry on with your treatements wear lose clothing shower in luke warm water calamine to stop itching and sleep with a fan on! even if its cold! take anti histamines

I think Its safe to say I have PR as well. I dont have the christmas tree pattern or the itchiness, but the red spots are creeping all over my body. Started on my torso and went up to my breasts, wrapped around my side to my back, up my neck to my hairline, and now going down to top of my legs. I am seeing spots start to creep onto my lady area so I freaked out and made an appointment with the dermatologist. After seeing all the comments i may resort to cold showers and tanning bed first, because now that I think about it they do seem to develop more after showers. Ive been taking pictures of the progression and its so gross! I have vacation to cancun in 2 weeks and seriously dont want to be the only person around wearing tshirt and shorts on the beach. Im so embarrassed even around my boyfriend, but thank God he is an awesome person that makes me feel pretty regardless of my 'syphillis looking rash!' As he called it lol. But seriously this is beyond a nuisance and i cant believe its happening right here at the peak of running and bikini season. I know that sounds shallow, but its ruining everything. I just hope the tanning bed can do some magic. I did try oral steroids, and it seemed to start to dry them out, but as soon as I completed the pack they came back with vengeance.

This was exactly my case! I went to the tanning bed though and it made the spots turn brown. So I'm seeing a dermatologist soon to see if I can get it to go away.

I'm almost positive this is what I have as well. I got the first big "patch" two months ago, and I still have some popping up, on my stomach and back.I've been trying every cream possible. The doctor gave me some about a month ago, but more just keep coming. Lately it has been burning(maybe the cream?) Not sure. This is miserable!

I know how you feel!1 I'm horrified to have this crap and can't wear summer skin baring clothes! I've been researching like crazy and some people have PR for much longer than 12 weeks. I I've had my rash for 9 months now! UGH!! My dermatologist says it eczema, but I know he he is wrong! I have every symptom pf PR. too many docs dismiss patients! I had the brown herald patch, now I'm also having intermittent or hot flashes, fever, lethargy. He tole me eczema is hereditary and is on the elbows and inside joints-NONE of which applies to me/1 no one in my family has eczema and my spots are NOT on my elbows or joints. WHAT is up with these docs? Wasting my time and money and not LISTENING TO WHAT I AM SAYING?! He prescribed triamincindene acetonide ointment, but it made it worse!
