how do I know when pityriasis rosea is healing?

I was diagnosed with pityriasis rosea almost 6 weeks ago. Apparently it takes 6-8 weeks to disappear, but I keep finding new spots every time I shower, new red spots seem to pop up. The first ones I got seem to keep changing. Does anyone know what these spots are meant to look like before they just disappear?

I love this PR community. I would not wish this condition on my worst enemy. I was diagnosed with PR the day before Christmas (my 40th birthday) I was covered from my neck down to my thighs. It was horrible. The doctor did not prescribe anything. As a black woman I was hesitant about going to the tanning bed but I did and it worked. My treatment consisted of going to the tanning bed everyday for a week for 15 minutes. I took a cool shower with head and shoulders after my shower I use witch hazel all and moisturized with coconut oil. Every other day I would do a coconut oil body scrub in addition to everything else. My Pr was gone within 2 weeks and my skin was softer than before due to the coconut oil and body scrub . I bought the coconut oil and coconut oil scrub at the Vitamin Shopp. I really hope this helps.

I am also a black women dealing with this issue. I'm worried that it will leave scars or marks where the spots are. Did your regimen help to reduce this?

Thanks for sending. I was diagnosed today and I used tea tree oil this morning but I will look for the coconut oil and scrub. Jury still out on the tanning bed although the dermatologist stated I need sun. I wonder if this has something to do with being vitamin d deficient. Thanks Amina!

Hi my son is only 2 1/2 years old. He has a round patch on his upper right shoulder on his back. He got the patch about 3 weeks ago...we thought it was ringworm.... then about 3 days later he broke out in a rash and its covering his entire body even his forehead ... but we took him to the dr. She tried prednisone. ...but now she tells me its just a viral infection and it will heal on its own. This is the only thing I can find close to what he has and still no signs of it clearing up. Hes not itchy but he is very red. Can someone help?!

According to my parents I had a very time with whole milk as a child. A possible link to PR? I would be curious to know if others out there suffering from PR have had a similar experience. My personal (Not a medical physician) opinion would be to have him get loads of play time outside if possible. Obviously be aware of all the risks that poses, and use sunscreen as needed. I only say this, because nearly everyone I have come across with PR have great deals of success with sunlight exposure.

Can you tell us more about the actual rash itself? I am assuming you have goggled images and came here because it resembles what your son has, but are the spots slightly raised surface, possibly flaky, and vibrant red?

It's not unheard of for kids as young as yours have get PR, but I want to say statistically speaking, that it occurs most often in late teens onward.

Also, are there any spots on the palms of his hands or on the soles of his feet? If so, I would strongly recommend seeing a dermatologist, because that is NOT very typical of PR.

Best of luck to you and your son!

I am currently having a PR outbreak now, at 42, I haven't had any sort of rash in years. Though as a child had a lot of trouble with sensitive skin and allergies. One most memorable was milk. I wasn't able to be breast fed and dairy or formula were also issues for me. My mother said she had to make my soy formula herself (there were no soy formulas on the market at the time.
I know that I did have roseola as a baby as well. Did you have any other rashes or sensitivities as a child? Just curious.

I was diagnosed with pityriasis rosea a few months ago. The Hearld appeared on the center of my chest. The usual followed and within 3 weeks it had spred all over my trunk and some patches on my shins. I was told it would run its course and that there was no actual cure by my local P.
I met a guy by chance that was pretty much versed in the alternative medicine world. He told me go get myself some Zinc and Vitamin C tablets or suppliments and it will clear up quickly, he said a lack of Zinc and Vitamin c in our diets that sparks it off.
I found a thing called Sambucol in the health section of local pharmacist. It had both Zinc and Vitamin c (Immune Forte +Vitamin c + Zinc) Thats what the bottle says.
The result was absolutely astonishing. Within 2 days the pink colour had vanished and within a week there was just the shades of the larger patches visible. No scaling or itch occured. completely vanished in 10 days. I only took the Sambucol for 7 days.
And I was in the middle of the spreading stage when I started on this treatment. It immediately stopped spreading.
Thats my story and I hope this remedy may help someone else

IVe just noticed symptoms about a week ago and has spread quite fastly, especially on my neck and chest. I was hoping you could suggest whether you think the sambucol would work on someone who has only had this for a week?

Thankyou for the reassurance. I've been to the pharmacy and they have sambucol in losange form, liquid form, or tablet form. I was just wondering which one you took?
