how do I know when pityriasis rosea is healing?

I was diagnosed with pityriasis rosea almost 6 weeks ago. Apparently it takes 6-8 weeks to disappear, but I keep finding new spots every time I shower, new red spots seem to pop up. The first ones I got seem to keep changing. Does anyone know what these spots are meant to look like before they just disappear?

If you can't use a sunbed for even 3 minutes (which I found to make the biggest difference) also try using head and shoulders on your body. This worked wonders for me! I also took zinc and vitamin c tablets as I read that zinc was really helpful.. The head and shoulders has it in too! Mine cleared up in a week after I started using these methods and am hoping I don't see a return of it! Good luck!

I have PR for 4 weeks now n I'm feeling like this rash will never go away . I got it on the front and back of my thighs, my back , my butt, and my upper arms and now I'm developing new ones on my lower legs and lower arms. At the moment some of them have gone from red to a dark purple and are really dry with white scaly stuff on themand some are very flat and expanded. They are extremely itchy. Bathing with oatmeal really helps with that problem and I take oral medicine prescribed by my doctor . Does the change of approach mean they are going ? Please help . It's a very embaressing rash and is really impacting on my self esteem. :(

This is a late reply, but it definitely sounds like you are healing. PR spots will flatten, expand, and peel/flake off during the healing process. This was horribly itchy for me.

so I have never in my life responded to anyone on anything like this but I just a few weeks ago got blessed with the lovley rash! At first like most of the other people I freaked out thinking it was scabies or ring worm or even worse bed bugs. But instead I was told I get to just go with the flow of the rash and let it run its course. They tell you not to over heat yourself so I didn't tan, I tried taking as cold as showers as I could but nothing was helping. (I go to the gym everyday so I assumed the sweating was helping it spread) then I kept reading and reading and so many people said go to the tanner. So I started tanning and after just two sessions I couldn't believe the results!! I'm telling you it really works! They still aren't gone but they don't itch at all, haven't spread, and are getting more back to my normal skin tone. As for your itching now unfortunately I just used hydrocortisone cream before bed to take off the edge. But seriously try the tanner. I was in a place where I'd try anything why not get a nice tan for the summer while you're at it :p

Bathe with T-Gel anti-dandruff shampoo 2 times a day. This remedy worked 90% in 2 days, 100% in 1 week. It was crazy to me that every doctor said it would run its course in 9 weeks to 3 months, and that I could try antibiotics which might speed up the disappearance of this rash just a bit. But essentialy there was no explanation and no cure. Not true at all.

T-Gel worked in no time. I cannot believe more people aren't saying this and more shocking, that doctors aren't prescribing this.

Trust me, before and after pics, if I could post, would astonish.

Hi,

I am also suffering with PR. It's only started about 7 days ago and went to the doctors straight away as it was very itchy and uncomfortable. The doctors advised it was just heat rash, and it would clear the next day. I went back for a second opinion and luckily the Dr I saw was a skin specialist, who advise straight away it is PR. She had given me a prescription of hydrocortisone 1% cream and a oil bath/wash. It's now spreading to my neck and face, with few spots on my thigh. My arms, back and torso is where it is really affecting. I have been using coconut oil to try and keep my skin hydrated, but have been researching and see a lot of people have used tanning beds. Would anyone on here recommend this? I'm worried it will make it worse as when I get hot, my skin seems to be more irritable. Any info would be helpful. Thanks x.

I'm in my 5th time with PR...it will spread for about 10 days. Once it stops spreading you can start using the tanning bed. The ONLY treatment that has worked for me is the tanning bed. It disappears on my upper body relatively faster than my legs. I'm also using coconut oil, as well as ingesting it and it's helping a little. The worst part of PR is the waiting. It does feel like it lasts forever, but it does go away after about 8-10 weeks.

Tanning does seem to have helped a lot of people so it might be worth a try, but I would very much recommend that you do not let yourself get hot. It's a tricky balance, but heat makes PR spread even more. Avoid getting hot or sweaty or taking hot showers if possible.

All these comments are giving me hope my PR is going to be gone soon. I've been to the doctor twice when I noticed the rash, first they thought it was scabies gave me Meds for that didn't work so exactly a week later the doctor was so unsure of what I had so she just gave me a steroid shot and that helped the itch for a few days. Then she made me an appointment to a dermatologist but that isn't until April 10.thats way too long from now and I can't stand the itch.. But I was doing some research yesterday and I found this skin disorder and was reading about it and DING it rung a bell, my symptoms are all the same as to PR and my rash is so itchy. Today is my second day using the head and shoulders and bathing in an oatmeal bath. I hope this works for me as it is for Yall Bc this is by far the worst thing I've had. After I bathe I rub palmers cocoa butter on my body as well.
