ask: How long should I be in the sun without sunscreen?

Is there a safe amount of time to be in the sun if I am not wearing sunscreen? Does a sunburn begin right away when you are exposed to sunlight or does it take time?

Hi Jenny

Thanks for your post!

Don't be afraid to spend 20 minutes in the sun every day. It's good for us for Vitamin D production and is good for our emotional health too.

However, you need to cover up or get into the shade after about 20 minutes - this is when burning and/or damage can start.

If you plan on being outside for a while. apply sunscreen as you enter the sun, it will take some time to become active and allow a little sun on your body in the meantime.

Has this helped?

Best,

Susan
