Hey LoriB, Female hormones tend to relax vein walls, so says the Mayo Clinic and taking hormone replacement therapy or birth control pills may increase your risk of varicose veins.

Other risk factors are age, genetics, obesity and standing or walking for extended periods of time.

Do you have any pain associated with the varicose veins?
