I had unprotected sex a few days before last months period. I had my period as normal and it started on the 6th July, however it was lighter than usual and only lasted a few days. It is now the 11th August and i still havent come on my period, having said this my periods are quite irregular. I know its unlikely to become pregnant as you are most fertile 14 days into your cycle, however I am still worried as my periods are so irregular. Please help me by giving me your thoughts.

My boyfriend and i had unprotected sex today, however it was only for a few minutes and then we stopped because i was worried about him ejaculating. He hasnt ejaculated in the last 24 hours so i doubt there was anything on his penis. My period is also due in a few days. What are the chances of me getting pregnant?

Anytime you have unprotected sex there is a chance of pregnancy. It is a small chance if he did not ejaculate and intercourse was literally/honestly only 2 minutes. Specifically what it is called is sex using the "withdrawal method" which means you have sex and the man withdraws his penis before he ejaculates. This method of birth control is not very effective at preventing pregnancy...only about 70% (unless the couple is using this method consistently and correctly each time with practice).

Pre-ejaculatory fluid is present on the tip of a man's penis each time his penis becomes erect, irregardless if he has actually ejaculated recently or not-at-all. The act of his penis becoming erect causes the pre-ejaculatory fluid to occur, and this may/may not contain sperm.

Since you had unprotected sex today, you may want to go to the Pharmacy and use Plan B One Step, which can help prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex. The sooner you use it, the more effective it is (I believe up to 80%) at preventing pregnancy. You must be either 16 or 17 years of age or older to purchase it, and do not need a prescription.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Will the due date of my next period affect that statistic seeing as it should be soon?

No, the statistic takes all of the "what if's" into account, as it is the "percentage of likelihood that a woman, at any time in her cycle, may become pregnant when using this form of birth control.".

I would not be too concerned with the statistic, however, as most women are most fertile a few weeks before their expected period. The "what if" part of the equation is that some women may ovulate right before their expected period, and have sex where enough sperm travels into the vagina to "wait" for the egg and implant. This is not a likely scenario...just a chance...that we are unable to say for certain that you are not pregnant because you had sex right before your period. Women are able to get pregnant at any time during their cycle, because they may ovulate when they didn't think they were going to, or their period started early...so many factors.

Does that answer your question?

Yes, thank you. One more thing, what are the chances of there being sperm in the pre-ejaculatory liquid?

Good question! I haven't seen any great information on this. Let me do some more checking around, and I'll get back to you on this question with any results I find. I'm interested if anyone else knows the answer to this (with references and/or links to credible sites!).

If my period was already late (by 2 days) and I had unprotected intercourse, is there any chance of me becoming pregnant?

Yes, anytime you have unprotected intercourse, there is a chance of pregnancy. Since your period is late, you can take a home pregnancy test to know if you are pregnant, or if your period is just a few days late.

Let us know the results!

If you have only just started going out with the boy.... and are scared about getting pregnant the WHY ARE YOU HAVING UNPROTECTED SEX!?!?
Apart from the fact you dont want a baby you have barley been going out with this guy how do you know he does not have and STI'S???? having unprotected sex when you hardly know the guy is foolish and i cant believe you even posted the comment... its your own fault... if you dont use protection ...MORE THAN ONCE... what do you expect to happen!?!
