Hi Anon,

Thank you for writing! The color of stool normally is brown. The reason for the brown color is the presence of bile in the stool
It is important that you take changes in the color of your stool seriously.

Bleeding in the stomach or the intestines can change the color of stool. If bleeding occurs in the stomach or the upper part of the small intestine, the stool may turn black and sticky, described medically as black, tarry stool. Generally, black, tarry stool also is foul-smelling. This change in color and consistency occurs because of chemical reactions to blood within the intestine that are caused by digestive enzymes within the intestines.

Hemorrhoids do not cause black stool and I'm surprised that your doctor would dismiss blood in your stool as just that. Please visit your doctor or a health clinic which can be free or work on a sliding scale for a complete medical examination and keep us updated.

Hoping for the best,

Rosa
