Day 11 (today) showed a negative ovulation test (lighter color)

Anon:

Are you consulting your OB/GYN? Try to stop stressing yourself out and relax. Stress and anxiety can wreak havoc on your body. Your OB/GYN can run tests that will be more accurate than home kits and help you determine if there are any issues you need to address.

All the best.

Anon, what you learned about cervical mucus is probably worth the price of the kit right there. It's one of the best predictors of where your body is in its cycle.

Do you know how to chart your basal body temperature? It also takes a few months to get the hang of it, but it's very, very accurate as to when ovulation has occured. (However, you only know for sure AFTER your temperature rises, which means you need to be having sex like Alison mentioned -- about every other day during the week or so of fertile time.)

Here's how to chart your body temperature if you're interested:

But yes, the waiting is very, very hard. And while I know first-hand that it's easier said than done, you must try to not let it take over your life. That kind of stress can actually impede the process. And it makes you crazy in the meantime!! Even though it's the most interesting, fascinating and potentially life-changing thing going on for you right now, you can't obsess over it; just figure out your fertility routine, enjoy the extra-mandated sex (!) and then try to focus on other things while you see whether you were successful that month. Like I said, I know it's easier said than done, but it's really important to try to do.

And everyone, everywhere seems to either be pregnant or having babies when you're trying, aren't they? Hang in there, we're all behind you.

Ugh! The ovulation tests are a pain to figure out and decide if it is close enough to the same color or not. It was slightly lighter on day 11 and closer to the same on day 12, however, the control line was a little thicker. They really know how to mess with your brain.

I learned a lot about cervical mucus though. Day 8 was changing into day 9 (not sure that evening), day 10-11 was that thin, transparent CM (egg white) that it says prior is the most fertile for ovulation. I have no idea when I ovulated, but the CM yesterday (day 13) was back to the cloudy/sticky non-fertile type. So, I am guessing ovulation was on day 12, which means that if I had intercourse the evenings of the 9th and 10th, then it is possible that I could get pregnant.

Ugh! This waiting is going to take over my life! I wish someone would just tell me already this is probably going to happen.

Hi,

How long have you been using the ovulation predictor kit/test? Are you saying that you had sex on days 9 & 10, with the assumption that you would ovulate on day 11, but the ovulation predictor said that you are not ovulating?

From my understanding of ovulation kits, it is best to use them for a month or two before trying to get pregnant, so that you have a general idea of what time in your cycle you ovulate. They can not predict pregnancy (I'm sure you already know that!).

So, if I understand your question correctly, if you are not ovulating on day 11 (per the ovulation kit results), and you had sex on days 9 & 10, then are you going to keep testing to see what day you do ovulate? If you ovulate on day 12, then the sperm from day 10 could be "waiting" for the egg in the fallopian tube, which is ideal. If the ovulation kit says you ovulate on day 13, it is less likely...and so on.

I read that many OB/GYNs are recommending that if you are actively trying to get pregnant, it is ideal to have sex every-other day, or at least 2-3 times per week, for the best chances.

It sounds difficult to try to get pregnant the same time you are trying to predict ovulation with the kit, but not impossible.

How many test strips are in the kit (meaning, how many times can you check for ovulation per month?)

Hi, Anon, and thank you for your question?

Let's say your last period began April 1 and you have a 26-day cycle. Your most fertile period would be 4/09 through 4/19. And sperm can live for several days, so yes, if you had sex on days 9 and 10, you're doing the right thing if you want to become pregnant!

One of the things that's impossible to predict, however, is exactly when you ovulate and whether the sperm are right where they need to be, right when they need to be there. Fertilization must take place, and then the egg must implant successfully in the uterus for a pregnancy to actually take place.

Perfectly healthy couples sometimes take a few months to conceive, even when they are trying to do so. They might have sex on the "perfect" days but no pregnancy happens. It's normal. In fact, a couple isn't said to have a fertility problem until they have had unprotected sex normally for a year without a pregnancy occuring.

How old are you? Are you just starting to try to get pregnant?
