Q:

If you cramp a week before your period, spot then bleed heavy for two days and spot after are you pregnant?

I started cramping a week before my period was due. I was spotting for two days then I began to have heavy bleeding for two days. After the two days of heavy bleeding I began to spot for two days and then nothing. I took a pregnancy test and it was negative. My mom and sister thinks it may be to early to detect pregnancy but i think I'm not..although the period was not as heavy as I'm used to and the fact that I don't usually get cramps during my period. Should I take another test? Is something wrong with me?

Hi Anonymous,
Your right that abnormal or irregular periods are a very common occurance. There is no real answer as to why they happen sometimes but they certainly can occur due to stress, diet changes, exercise changes and so forth. You mention that you are trying to get pregnant...be patient as many couples try well over a year to become pregnant and tracking your ovualtion cycle can certainly help track down the times that you are ovulating.

I hope this helps calm your nerves. If you continue to experience abnormalities into your next cycle, I would make a doctors appointment. Otherwise, what you explained is very common and you are still having your period. If you are concerned that you are pregnant although still having a period, you could always try a pregnancy test to get that answer.

Please keep us updated.

Hi,
"Burst it in" is a new one for me! :) I assume that means he ejaculated inside of you?

If you have an early period, it does not indicate a pregnancy. It is actually the absence of a period that could mean you are pregnant. There are many reasons for an "earlier-than-expected" period, and if it is within the 21-35 day-range from your previous period, it is still considered normal.

If you are having unprotected sex, you do have a chance of pregnancy. If the bleeding you experienced was not similar to a menstrual period (more like spotting), you may/may not be pregnant. I am not sure if you are trying to become pregnant...but if your regular period does not begin at the time you expect it to, you can take a home pregnancy test.

i have a regular 28 days cycle ,my period should be on the 10th -11th of every month. i started cramp on the 2nd April and today 4th of April my tummy is still in pain. so you mean my regular period will still come on the 10th-11th this month?
And i heard from my friends she got pregnant even having her period too..
as i told you my fiancée ejaculate in on my 4th days of my period which is ( 15th March) and ejaculate in on the 12-13days before my period which is (29th or 30th march). chances is high for pregnacy? i don't feel nausea at all..
how long does implantation take place?

Hi Anonymous,
Thank you for your question. If you are experiencing break through bleeding again, you may want to go back to your doctor. He/she may want to try a different birth control as the bleeding may be caused by the birth control itself.

Call and make an appointment. It should not be concerning but if you continue to break through with the pill, your doctor may want to try a different type of birth control.

I hope this helps and can you keep us posted?
Thank you,
Missie

If you are having a menstrual period right now, you are not pregnant.

Your period can be heavy or light, you can have "clots" in the blood (most women do have some menstrual blood that comes out in larger tissue "clumps"). This is all normal.

If your period is so heavy that you are soaking through a pad or tampon *every* hour, this could be considered abnormal heavy bleeding that you would want to call a doctor. Otherwise, women will have heavy flow that changes to light flow.

Anytime you have unprotected sex (in the future) you have a very, very high risk of pregnancy. If you do not want to be pregnant right now, and you want to have sex, you must use protection every single time (birth control pills, condom, etc).

Hi,

I have had regular cycles until now. 28 days apart & I keep track of it through an app I have on my phone that tells my next cycle, ovulation and high fertility dates. So far it's been correct, & I've been trying to conceive. According to the application, I ovulated June 4th & engaged in intercourse. I had a regular cycle that month, but this month has been awkward. My cycle was due today, but for the past two weeks I've been having pregnancy symptoms: breast tenderness, swelling, nausea when I eat/when I don't eat, & fatigue. I know this because I usually only have breast tenderness & swelling for a day or two. THey are still the same today. I also began brown spotting two days of last week & then Thurs & Fri I had intercourse & spotted bright red blood afterwards (no cramps). Saturday I had some cramping but no bleeding or spotting. Today I had cramping & what I think seems like a cycle but it's not my normal one because mine is usually extremely heavy the first day of my cycle. I've only changed my pad twice today & the blood is dark red but when I wipe, it's a bright red. Someone please help me!!
