Ok so this is my problem. I have been on birth controll pills for a couple years now. I am currently taking Ocella. I am a sunday starter and I started the new pack on 8/2. I didn't take my pill on the 5th, 6th, or 7th. I had sex on the 5th and 7th. I was out of town and didn't have the booklet that came with my pills. I have never missed taking my pills. So on the 8th I realized i missed 3 days, and just took all the pills together, and I wasn't suppose to do that. Am I going to be ok, and is there a possibility I am pregnant?

If you use birth control pills consistently and correctly every time, then you are 99% "protected" from pregnancy when you have sex, regardless of when you have intercourse.

The pill does not protect against STDs/STIs (sexually transmitted diseases or infections), so you should still use a condom to protect yourself against these.

I am normally a Sunday starter. On my current pack, I wasn't able to pick up my prescription until Monday, so I started as normal on Monday instead of Sunday. I didn't take two on Monday because taking two always makes me nauseated and I just couldn't handle it that day. Can I just continue one pill a day and be off the whole month, then start again on Sunday with my next pack as usual? Or do I need to throw out this pack and start over again after my next period? I don't have any worries about being pregnant because we haven't been having sex at all lately, I just couldn't find this answer anywhere else and thought I would try here. Thanks!

Next time what you can do: "double-up" on your pills, but don't take them at the same time. For example: Monday you could have taken Sunday's missed pill in the afternoon with lunch, then taken Monday's pill in the evening.

Since you took your first pill within 24 hours of when you were supposed to start (I'm assuming this is during your period?), then you may have just changed your start date to a Monday starter instead of Sunday.

Do the instructions in your packet tell you how to change the start date, as this may be the appropriate section that provides the right information. Some women purposefully want to change to a different day to start, and as long as it is still the Monday after your period began (even if you are still bleeding), then you should be protected; using a condom as backup would be a good idea for the first 7 days.

Yes, it is possible to become pregnant after delivering a baby...even if it has only been 6 weeks. If you are breastfeeding, that may offer some protection against pregnancy, but there is a chance it may not (it is not reliable).

It generally takes the pill 7 days for the pill to be at its highest effectiveness rate; 3 days of pills may offer some protection. Many women do not begin ovulating until a few months after delivering, but there is no way for us to know what your risk of pregnancy is; the hormones after delivering a baby are just getting back to their pre-pregnancy state.

Have you been to your postpartum check up yet?

I'm sorry that you are scared about being pregnant, when you just had a baby! If you are going to be worried too much, you may want to call your doctor's office and talk with them, since you have enough stress and sleepless-nights with a new baby.

HEY EVERYONE. I HAVE TWO QUESTIONS. I'M ON ORTHO LO AND WAS WONDERING CAN I SKIP THE SUGAR PILLS AND JUST START A NEW PACK?MY NEXT QUESTION IS, I MISSED TWO PILLS IN WEEKS THREE. I FORGOT TO TAKE IT TWICE BUT NOT RIGHT AFTER EACH OTHER.FORGOT ON LIKE A MONDAY AND A WEDNESDAY. IT'S ALSO MY FIRST PACK. SHOULD I BE OK. P.S. IM ALSO A FIRST DAY OF MENSTRUAL STARTER.

If you are interested in taking your pills continuously (skipping the "sugar pills"), it is possible, but I would recommend a quick call to your doctor's nurse. Some birth control pills, and some situations, are OK to do this with, but since we do not know your health history, I would be remiss to suggest that you take your prescription in any other way other than to follow the instructions. Your nurse can tell you quickly over the phone how to skip your period this month by taking the next pack of birth control pills.

If you are interested in skipping periods more frequently, there are lower-dose birth control pills that are designed with this in mind; you may ask for a prescription for a pill where you have fewer periods.

If you miss a pill, then just take it as soon as you remember.

You mentioned that this is your "first pack"...do you mean first pack ever? Since you missed pills in week 3, as long as you have been taking the other pills consistently and correctly, then missing a pill (and taking it as soon as you remember) is probably fine. The pill is about 99% effective at preventing pregnancy, and when you miss pills, this effectiveness rate decreases; it decreases most significantly when missing 3 or more pills in-a-row. If you miss a pill, be sure to use alternative form of contraception (condom) for 7 days to be protected.
