On the scale of "risky", what you described would be considered "slightly to barely" risky. For the pill to be at it's 99% most effective, it is best to take it at the same time every day. You missed one pill, took it as soon as you remembered the next day, then resumed taking your pills as usual. Missing two, three or more pills can dramatically decrease the effectiveness of the pill.

Next time, to play it really safe, be sure to use a condom with sex for the next 7 days after a missed pill.

I don't know if my situation is serious or not. But I am on my first week, Sunday starter, and I missed one day on Monday and took two pills on Tuesday then I also missed Wednesday and took two pills on Thursday. I had unprotected sex from Sunday to Thursday. I want to know what my risks are here, because I am still on my first week of pills and I will not know for another 3 weeks if I am pregnant or not.

Thanks,
M

Hello! Thank you for answering everyone's questions - we are lucky to have this messageboard!

I, too, have a question.

As a sunday starter, I began a new pack on Sunday July 18th - went for a week then forgot pills on the following Sunday, AND Monday (of this week). As instructed, Tuesday I took two, and Wednesday I took two....now I am supposed to continue one a night for the rest of the pack.

My concern is that on tues. morning I had some breakthrough bleeding..and now, on thursday, I have a full blown period. This was from missing the two pills so early in the pack?

My question is whether or not I should expect to have a period later this month when I am regularly scheduled to? Thanks for any insight you can lend!

I'm glad to hear that you followed the directions on your pill pack after missing 2 pills!

Breakthrough bleeding is normal, but I am also surprised by a full-blown period after missing just 2 pills. Not concerned, just surprised. The bleeding you are experiencing is likely "withdrawal bleeding" from not having the hormones in your system for two days (just a thought?). Do you smoke or use any other medications?

I would not necessarily be "concerned", as missing pills and then doubling-up can wreak a little havoc on your system; those are some potent hormones you're dealing with! I am not 100% sure if you would get your "period" later this month, but I would suspect you would. Your "period" when using hormonal contraception is actually "withdrawal bleeding", and when you are on your 4th week of "hormone-free" pills, I would assume that you would experience bleeding again.

My thought for you: if you continue bleeding tomorrow with a "full blown period", it might be worth a quick call to your doctor. They have probably heard about this before, and can ease your mind.

I am on a generic form of yasmin and I have been on it for at least 2 years. THe only break I have had in taking the pill was back in April when I had an emergency appendectomy and had to stop mid pills and I got my period within 3 days. That was a Thursday, so I started a new pack on that following Sunday. I missed a pill yesterday (just took it) and I am in my 3rd week. My husband and I had sex on Monday, but he pulls out. Should I be worried about becoming pregnant?

I know there are already several scenario's on here but I don't feel like any of them apply directly to my situation so I want to explain and hopefully get some advice...
I have been on the pill for about 5 years. I am usually really good about taking it and rarely forget, but...
I forgot several pills so waited until the Sunday after my next period to start a new pack (on the advice of my doctor). So this week is my 3rd week into the new pill pack. I had a crazy weekend and without realizing it, missed Saturday, Sunday and Monday. I took 2 pills Monday night (last night). I have also had unprotected sex around this time. I noticed some spotting this morning and I attributed it to breakthrough bleeding from missing the pill. Should I continue with this pack of pills (Yaz) and are my chances of being pregnant high?
My husband and I have actually been talking about the possibility of another baby, so it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. I would probably be a lot happier than he would, but it wouldn't be bad news.

What does your patient information brochure that comes with your Yaz prescription say to do? I assume it says to throw out that pack if missed 3 or more pills in a row..is this correct? If you are pregnant, you probably do not want to continue taking the pills.

Anytime you miss pills, there is a chance of pregnancy. You may want to call your doctor again and ask for their advice on this one.

I have been on ortho tri cycln for about 6 months now. I started my period on July 14 and ended on July 19. My cycle is usually 28 days. On Wed july 22, I had unprotected sex, and realized that night that I had forgotten to start a new pack of pills on sun, so I started a new pack on wed nite and have taken one since. I did not double up on any pills. Could I be pregnant?
