im 52 and have been on perimenopause 3 years.I have 1 or 2 peroids a year.Just recently had spotting for 5 days.Started out just a little bleeding and then went to very light but 2 weeks later again same thing.Should I be worried or is this normal? There is no heavy bleeding,no discharge of any sort,no pain with sex.

Hi Anon!

Thank you for your post!

52 is the average age to enter actual menopause, although that changes from woman to woman of course. Women can be perimenopausal as early as 40!

Your symptoms do sound typical of this period of your life - no periods at all and then bleeding out of the blue. I have a friend in her 50s who had no periods for 11 months and then had one, which technically meant she was not in menopause yet as menopause is "official" when there has been no period for 12 successive months. Some women spot on and off for years as well as having random periods on top of it.

Since you're not in any pain or have any other effects aside from bleeding, this could be normal but a call to your doctor's office can't hurt.
