Victoria,

Please take your son to see his pediatrician right away. At 3, he is not old enough to be able to be precise about his pain or his symptoms, and you want to be sure that there's nothing more than a sprain going on.

Also, your pediatrician is the best person to say what medicine and how much is best to give him to relieve his pain, based on his age, his weight and his injury. Your doctor can also recommend whether the ankle should be wrapped in an Ace bandage, and how much your son can or cannot be on that ankle right now.

Poor little guy. I hope you guys can get in right away and that he'll feel better soon. Will you call right away?

Victoria,

I'm so glad you took him straight to the doctor!! That was the right thing to do. I hope the splint has helped some. I cannot imagine what it must be like to care for an active 3-year-old boy who needs to stay off his ankle!! You have a bigger than usual job in the next few days and weeks, don't you?

Yes i do...he wants to walk and he can't and he gets crampy but I try to keep him busy on computer activities or coloring something that he wont have to get on his feet. The doctor said that he cant put any pressure on that ankle and it is si hard to keep him sitting down but I get after him and explain that if he doesnt listen and stay off his feet he will never be better...so I think he finally got the point. Once in awhile he tells me when is he gonna be able to walk and I tell him if he listens and follows the doctor and my orders...he will be walking in no time!!! Thanks for caring for my child and he will be going to the bone doctor on Thursday to put on a cast or to see what the doctor says that needs to be done...thanks again and keep in touch!!!
