Is there anything she can do to prevent this itching? Is there another version of this drug that does not create the itching problem?

Hi,
Unfortunately, one of the listed side effects of dronedarone (brand name Multaq®), does include itching.
It is important for your mom to call her doctor, as even though this is can be a side effect of this medication, it needs to be reported if it is severe itching and/or itching that does not go away.
Only your mom's doctor can suggest and prescribe another type of medication for her specific condition, and/or provide remedies that are suitable for her condition to treat the side effect of itching. (There are possible drug interactions, even with topical prescriptions, so unfortunately only her doctor and/or pharmacist will be able to answer your question directly).
Here are the listed side effects (sounds like you already know these):
"Dronedarone may cause side effects. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:
* diarrhea
* nausea
* stomach pain
* vomiting
* heartburn
* weakness
* rash
* itching
* redness"

Please let us know what your mom's doctor says about this side effect, and what his/her suggested remedy is.
