ask: Ouch - why am I getting these hangnails?

I've been getting hangnails (4 total) in the past couple of weeks.

These things are painful - and I don't know how to prevent them.

It's hard not to pick at them to get them off and if I do, they
hurt even more!

I'd like to know why they happen and how to stop them.

Thanks-

Have you been using different chemicals or detergents while cleaning? Or do you tend to be a nail biter? Both of these can lead to hangnails.

Don't pull them off, though. You might grab a larger part of skin than you think and open yourself up for an infection.

To help lessen the chances for hang nails, trim your cuticles and use a good hand moisturizer.
