Pain in arm after flu shot

I had a flu shot Sept. 2008 and remember it hurt when given. Since then I have pain in my upper arm and shoulder (it's now been a year). I believe it is nerve damage from the needle going to deep. I have had an MRI. meds and now going to Chiro with no relief. I cant't put my arm behind my back or lift it over my head and forget about putting weight on it. Does anyone know of relief for this condition?

Thanks

Thank God I'm not crazy. I got my shot around labor day, and have the same symptoms - can't raise arm outward and up from there, trouble putting my coat on, soreness the rest of the time. The pain is worse than a monster foot cramp - not dissipating for minutes at a time. It's now months after my shot and hurts as bad as ever. Heat, massage and vibration feel good, but don't prevent the pain the next time that I move it the wrong way. My shot was two fingers down from my shoulder, regular flu shot (my first ever). Pain killers (ibuprofen and vicoden) do not seem to help at all. I lost my insurance with my job, so I'm looking for an inexpensive solution. Anyone found an over the counter solution other than watching my calendar? Thanks for ANY help!

I'm having the same pain many of you are reporting. Pain began during and after injection remains after 5 weeks. Cannot move arm above shoulder. Aches all the time. Wakes me up at night. Still sore at injection site. This shot was different than any I've ever had. It hurt immediatly and never stopped. Thank you all for reporting in to this site. It helps to not be alone.
Ok, did some research and here's what I found. Flu shots especially the h1n1 or swine flu in 1976 are linked to guillain-barre syndrome. It is a quite serious nerve inflamation syndrome that can move throughout our bodies. Often stays at the site if injection but not always. The government knew and knows about this risk with this vaccine and did little to inform us. I'm notifying my public health office and then my US Congressman and US senators. This is really awefull they did not tell us about this risk. If you guys are any indication of the number of injured then we are way above the 1 in 100,000 mark they sometimes talk about. Statistically there are probalby 100 to 10,000 people with similar symptoms for every one of us, that have not even found this site. Oh, and I'm going to my Dr. tomorrow and I'm not listening to excuses. MY PAIN STARTED THE MOMENT OF THE VACCINE AND HAS NOT LEFT 5 WEEKS LATER. It's not some mystical injury or previous or phantom or anything else. It's very real. Thanks for posting your symptoms and stories they are helpful to hear.

Well it sounds like there are hundreds of us. (Probably thousands more who are suffering alone.) I wish someone from public health would give us an answer about what's going on? Perhaps they don't want to frighten people away from getting the vaccine, thinking that not taking it will help spread the virus. Hmmmm. Lets get to the bottom of this. My shot to was also high on the arm.

Thanks for your post. I beleive you are correct. The reason we were not informed about this risk was to A.) Sell all the vaccine the companies made. or B.) Not scare people away from getting the vaccine. I'm hoping it's the latter.
Research guillain-barre syndrome, associated with flu and swine flu shots.
Best of luck,
Greg

The same thing happened to me with this year's swine flu shot 2009.
The technician seemed to shoot a bit too high and the fluid felt metalic going in.
No other way to describe it as the intense metalic feeling flowed down my arm. The pain was immediate and unlike any other shot I have ever had. Some 3 weeks later, I too can barely raise my arm above shoulder height without serious pain. What is this? Why is there so little information on this on the web? Is this a fairly rare occurance?
Thanks for your input if you know about this type of injection injury or damage.

Pat, I love the t-shirt idea. Another idea (in case we ever heal) is "I got my flu shot and then I'm one of many who suffered with pain". What can the government do - it's a fact!

Hey everyone - I feel so bad that you're in such pain, and for so long, and trying so many things without relief. I wish there was a way I could send you some jokes or funny videos or something to make you laugh and smile for a bit. I know it's hard to be upbeat about this, but at least we do know from others who've had this problem that it does eventually go away and life will go back to normal. Please try to hang in there as best you can, and feel free to come back here anytime you need to vent, ask a question, make suggestions, give us an update, whatever will help. Maybe we need some t-shirts that say "I got my flu shot" on the front, with a back that says "And I've been in pain ever since." :-) Any other ideas?
Take good care of yourselves,
Pat

I love the t-shirt idea. We could easily make them ourselves at a generic t-shirt company online. I'm in. I dare anyone to do it. In fact, I might order one today to make me laugh.

The T-Shirt would be a great idea. I don't think the Government will allow it.

I hear you on the upbeat part of it. I used to be a smiley, happy person all the time - I want to be that person again. Also the fatigue, I guess I hadn't put the two together before, boy I am a little slow on that one.

The medical profession here is reluctant to connect the symptoms to the vaccine because, I believe, they don't want to risk the general public from being discouraged to participate in flu vaccinations as we are exceptions. And also because we are exceptions, they don't know what has happened to our bodies or how to deal with it. Someone higher up creating the vaccines should have the knowledge and have informed the doctors at the many conferences they attend or by some other means. Flu vaccines, whether H1N1 or seasonal, could do this harm.

Mine is since Oct. 26th and some days are better than others - we will beat this in time.
