I had a flu shot Sept. 2008 and remember it hurt when given. Since then I have pain in my upper arm and shoulder (it's now been a year). I believe it is nerve damage from the needle going to deep. I have had an MRI. meds and now going to Chiro with no relief. I cant't put my arm behind my back or lift it over my head and forget about putting weight on it. Does anyone know of relief for this condition?

Thanks

For those of you that may have followed my comments, the voltaren seems to be working. This morning I have more arm movement. I did phone for a physiotherapist appointment but cannot get in until January 25th. She told me while I was protecting my arm because of the pain, it created the frozen shoulder and that it doesn't take long to happen. Someone in these postings had said to keep your arm active and obviously they were right.

Hey everyone. Good news here. I had the pain also for exactly 4 monthts now...however...it's subsiding. I've been doing physicial therapy and keeping it active, icing down, and taking aleve with pepto bismol for stomach protection. Finally it's on the mend. There are exercises online to help with the therapy. What I was told from the therapist was: a shoulder is not the philosophy of "no pain no gain". He said to work with it in a comfortable fashion, and not to reach the pain part of it. Hopefully more news to come for all.

Hi Pat, I inadvertently posted without logging in correctly on the comments just above yours. I am the one that went for the mammogram and I have posted already a few times. My doctor had x-rays done of my shoulder and arm - everything appeared alright. I explained my communications with the Public Health Agency of Canada and the Health Unit, and of course, my symptoms to date. He was reluctant to directly point the origin of the problem to the vaccination. He did however say that it could have injured my tendon which he thinks is my problem and also a frozen shoulder (which you have mentioned before). He wants me to go to physiotherapy and also to a doctor who specializes in frozen shoulder treatment. He gave me prescriptions for Percacet for pain relief and voltaren for inflammation. Unfortunately, the percacet given from the pharmacist was a generic and is oxycocet and is making very, very sickly feeling. I will keep you posted.

At one time I thought I had signs of improvement, but such is not the case anymore. My arm pain has increased. I have far less motion/movement ability with my arm. It is now 10 1/2 weeks. This past Monday I had to go for a mammogram and it turned into a bit of a disaster. The first one went ago, and then the second position she placed me in my whole right side just kind of went into a pain spasm and I was still stuck in the machine. They ended up having to do an ultra-sound. The interesting thing was the woman doing the mammogram told me her sister a few years ago had the same arm pain from a seasonal flu vaccine and took a very long time for recovery. I do not know why I seem to going from bad to worse. This morning I have doctor's appointment - not sure that will do me much good, but I need something to get movement in my arm (It's my right arm). I have also been communicating with the Public Health Agency of Canada and the Health Unit to file an Adverse Effect report. I actually wish this was not a result of the vaccine and could be repaired by not having just to wait it out.

Hi Anon - You've certainly had more than your share of problems. I'm so sorry to hear that your mammogram procedure was affected by your arm pain, that must have been a really uncomfortable and unpleasant experience.

I'm also sorry to learn you're going from bad to worse. Could you please let us know what you learned at your doctor's appointment today? It's helpful to share information with each other and support each other.

Thanks, Pat

I have the exact same issues as everyone else. I got the shot in October and still have shoulder pain on both sides. It also goes down into my arms and up into my neck. Just finished a round of steroid treatment and still no relief. This is really difficult and doctor doesn't seem to have a clue.

It was three months ago that my pain began immeadiately after receiving the flu injection. I have been taking 2 ibuprophen first thing in the morning, eating an anti-inflamatory diet and forcing myself to use my left arm more. My pain is finally bearable!!!

I know how you feel Canadian. I really do.I don't have money for any medical or prescriptions either.I'm just trying to do whatever i can think of to subside the pain each day.I know it sucks that it will be a slow process for our healing but at least some people who post on here help us know there is hope even if it will take longer than we thought. I have to tough it out for my kids each day.I'm just trying to have Faith and Hope and know that we could have something a-lot worse that could have happened to us.I'm glad it's not something worse even though at times the pain is so upsetting.I didn't even get the H1N1 because of my arm pain from the regular Flu shot.We take those risks when we take the shots. We sign for it and all. I'm trying not to panic because i do have major Anxiety and Depression. The numbness is what scares me the most because it feels like my arm is heavy and like it's gonna fall off cause i can't feel the circulation.Try sports creams or Glucosamine Vitamins and 800mg Motrin daily. That's all i'm doing and it helps a little but not much. Hugs to all who suffer this annoying arm pain! We will survive!

I have commented a few times already. It is nine weeks today since my H1N1 vaccination. I have to say my pain appears to be worse from activity, at least in the last few days. Yesterday I had my first pity party while I had a soak in the bath. The pain was getting to me and I just had to shed a some tears while I had some alone time. Now when I read this may go on for twenty months! What bothers me so much is that I really got the shot to avoid the spreading of the flu. We can all tolerate the flu for 3-5 days, it was more important not to pass it on to others. And here we are suffering with this pain in our arms. Also the cost of medications, prescription and non-prescription, especially when one doesn't have medical coverage. Unfortunately, we did what we thought was the right thing to do......but I am so getting tired of the hurting. Sorry, I just had to let you know my days are not going well.

Thank you again everyone for your helpful comments.20 months is long but as long as it subsides little by little in the meantime then that is good.I will get to my doctor as soon as i can afford it. Family is broke for awhile since Christmas. The Glucosamine vitamins 1500mg and the cream has been subsiding some of the throbbing pain. I hope it continues to work.I do little activities to keep my arm going because i don't want to get that Frozen Shoulder problem. I try to do the activities little by little and take a few breaks when my arm starts to throb.I don't know if my doctor will just randomly give me the special blood test you write about. They always want some kind of good reason.I can't even get my daughters blood type without a doctors refferel. I'll ask my family in laws about it.It's Kaiser. Thanks again for the hopeful comments.
