I had my total abdominal hysterectomy was done back in 1997. I have been dating my boyfriend for almost 2 years and we are planning on getting married next year. He finally confessed to me that when we have sex that he cannot feel anything inside me and has a more difficult time having an orgasim. When I give him oral sex there is no problem at all for him. I don't want to give up having sex forever but it hurts knowing I can't make it feel good for him.

Hi Anon,
Thank you for your post!
During an abdominal hysterectomy, your surgeon detaches your uterus from the ovaries, fallopian tubes and upper vagina, as well as from the blood vessels and connective tissue that support it. The lower part of your uterus (cervix) is usually removed (total hysterectomy) but may sometimes be left in place (partial, or supracervical, hysterectomy). At the time of the hysterectomy, additional pelvic organs and tissue, such as your ovaries and fallopian tubes, may be removed.
However, I'm not quite sure what your boyfriend means by not being able to feel anything inside you during sex. Your vaginal wall is still there and the uterus, cervix, Fallopian tubes and ovaries that were removed would not be organs that he would have been able to feel if they were still there.
I think this is something best left for him to clarify for you and then discuss what steps you can make to improve your sex life. Stay positive-- there's always a way to work this out without the need to give up sex.
Best Wishes,
Rosa
