I am on dialysis, and have stopped my physicians from giving me prescription form of vitamin D due to the terrible side effects and adverse reactions, but I read Dr. Andrew Weil says to take the D3 of the two types of vitamin D, according to my physician i need the vitamin d , however they understand that I want only natural and organic supplements, will the D3 have the same effect as the D2 or do they do two completely different things.

Hi SuzyQue,
Welcome to EmpowHER. Aside from supplements. There are actually very few naturally occurring foods which contain D, wild salmon being the most notable. The most important source in nature for human beings is sunlight. Our skin uses UV-B energy from sunlight to convert another natural steroid in the skin to vitamin D. Study results have not clearly shown whether D2 or D3 is the more effective form of vitamin D supplement, or if there are any differences between the two. You might need to discuss this with your doctor.
Best,
Daisy
