Joanna:
Hi. My name is Joanna, and I am going to be undergoing a uterine myomectomy procedure soon, and I wanted to share with you some of the things that I have been going through leading up to the surgery.
I have been dealing with symptoms of relating to my uterine fibroid for a while. I would say really bad for about six months. I went to my doctor for my yearly exam last year, and they said that they found a lump when they were doing my exam. They said it was probably just a cyst, an ovarian cyst or something like that, but I should get an ultrasound done.
So I got an ultrasound done. It was a little nerve-racking because this doctor was actually the doctor that diagnosed my friend with cancer. So that was a little scary but went the next week and got that done and then found out that it was a uterine fibroid, which I knew that I had had, but apparently it had grown significantly. And I wasn’t really experiencing that much in terms of symptoms, so they just said, “Just let it be, and, just we’ll monitor it.” So I was doing that, and then I started really starting to have some pain off and on.
It wasn’t anything really bad, but it was starting to get a little uncomfortable, and the worst thing was is I started noticing a change in my sleep. I’d have to get up, I’d have to go the bathroom repeatedly before I went to bed, and then I was getting up during the night to go the bathroom. That started getting worse.
That was really what made me realize that I had a problem that I had to take care of and that I couldn’t just let it be anymore, which I know could have been possible, you know, if it really wasn’t a problem to just not do anything about it, but it’s gotten to the point where I have to sleep sitting up every night, and I wake up probably four or five times every single night.
So I don’t sleep and just getting asleep is very hard because I have to go to the bathroom about five times before I can even try and go to sleep. So I don’t sleep very well anymore, and that’s why I need to get it taken care of.
