VIDEO - HERSTORY: Reva Shares If It Was Difficult To Find A Professional Informed About PPD

October 30, 2009 - 10:55pm 51 reads 0 comments

Reva describes the challenges she faced look for a professional who was informed about postpartum depression/PPD.

Reva:
Well, when I looked for help, I was put in contact, well I actually wasn’t put in contact with therapists that were trained with postpartum depression. I was told that there was none in my area that my insurance could locate, so I found a therapist on my own, and that person unfortunately wasn’t really experienced with postpartum depression. And she, in turn, just due to fear or due to lack of knowledge, responded by reporting me to Child Protective Services, which I am sure isn’t the case for every woman who has postpartum depression, but it was the case for me.

So, it hasn’t deterred me from seeking proper treatment, and fortunately there was a university in Arizona that specializes or has a department that specializes in women’s mental health and they were very helpful in terms of putting me in contact with adequate resources.
