The secret way to stop hot flashes could be waiting for you at the iTunes store. There are several apps that help you keep track of your menopause symptoms and take care of them when they arise. Putting a stop to your hot flashes might be (almost) as easy as pushing a button on your iPhone.
Getting prepared
Studies show that many women find it difficult to talk about their menopause symptoms, even with their doctors and close family members. There’s a stigma associated with aging in the United States, and it makes women fearful of showing the “weakness” of getting older. But it’s important to be informed, and to know how your body is changing during menopause so you know how to handle symptoms, including hot flashes. Get apps that will help you learn more about your symptoms:
Honest Aging Monthly. The free Honest Aging Monthly app is a newsletter that offers current information on menopause symptoms, including the most common of them all: hot flashes.
HD Menopause and Andropause. For 99 cents, you can have an entire menopause encyclopedia at your fingertips with the HD Menopause and Andropause app. You can even diagnose your husband with it — andropause is the male version of menopause. The app allows you to look up symptoms, cures and information that will help you get through the changes menopause brings.
Keeping track
Before you can successfully stop hot flashes, you’ll probably have to track them. What you eat, what you feel and what bad habits you practice may all effect how severe and frequent your hot flashes become. Use myPause to keep track of all your menopause symptoms, and what might be causing them. The app is a little pricey at $4.99, but it has a lot of features. The Journal keeps you keep track of your hot flashes and other symptoms. Use the Trends function to see how your eating and lifestyle habits are affecting your menopause. There’s even a Plan feature that helps you keep track of diet, vitamins and other details.
Stop hot flashes…with an app?
Wouldn’t it be great if you could feel a hot flash coming on, grab your iPhone and push a button to stop it immediately? It’s not quite that it easy, but there are apps that will help you learn how to stop hot flashes when even dietary and lifestyle changes don’t eliminate them entirely.
There are several stress relief and meditation apps available through iTunes, both free and paid varieties, that may help you unlock the secrets of stopping hot flashes. Physicians recommend stress relief when hot flashes occur. Deep breathing, a positive attitude — whatever it takes to help you relax is the first thing you ought to do when a hot flash strikes. Getting nervous or tensing up is likely to make the hot flash even more severe. Stress relief and meditation apps help you master relaxation tips and tricks that can make hot flashes and hormonal night sweats immediately better when they strike.

There is also an iPad app that is called 'The Menopause Diet' which has recipes with phytoestrogens to help combat menopausal symptoms. There are plans to bring the app to iPhone soon.
