What is Chrondrosarcoma?

Chrondrosarcoma is a primary bone cancer found in the cartilage cells. It is a malignant tumor. This type of cancer affects about two to three thousand people annually, and those primarily affected are adults between the 50 to 75 years old. Currently, there is no known cause although some patients may have a history of enchondroma or osteochondroma. It is most common in the arms, legs, pelvic region, and shoulder bones. However, it can occur in any bone, even at the base of the skull. About 25 percent primary bone cancers are known to be chrondrosarcomas.

Osteosarcoma. It looks like a scary word. It even sounds frightening when pronounced, but with the proper diagnosis and treatment, most kids with this type of bone cancer do recover. Osteosarcoma is the most common type of bone cancer. In children, it is the sixth most common type of cancer. Osteosarcoma begins in the bones and can spread to other bones or to the lungs.

Spinal Surgery, Here We Come

Today was decision day. We finally have some answers on the spinal surgery! This morning we met the famous thorasic surgeon, Dr. Dickman from Barrows Neurological Institute that would be performing the surgery. He at first was ambivalent on if we should move ahead with with the surgery. His thinking was that if I had only 6-12 months to live, then it didn’t really serve a great purpose to do the surgery when a good couple of months of the time would be in recovery.
