Traditional Chinese Medicine Treatments for Infertility In Women

Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) recognizes seven different patterns of infertility in women.

Kidney yang deficiency results from chronic illness. A woman may have delayed, scanty and irregular periods. She may experience dizziness, exhaustion or ringing in the ears, a sore back and low libido. Her complexion may be dull and pale.

A traditional Chinese medicine practitioner may use herbal formulas like Yu Lin Zhu, Wu Zi Yan Zong Wan, You Gui Wan, and Jin Gui Shen Qi Wan.

Kidney yin deficiency involves many symptoms of kidney yang deficiency but from different causes. The underlying problem in kidney yin deficiency is genetically inherited weakness.

A TCM practitioner may recommend Liu Wei Di Huang Wan, Zuo Gui Wan plus Wu Zi Yan Zong Wan, and Yang Jing Zhong Yu Tang Plus.

Blood stasis can result from surgery, emotional trauma, or excessive menstrual bleeding. A woman may experience scanty or delayed and painful periods, with dark purple blood and clots. Her tongue may be pale with purple dots.

Recommended herbal formulas might be Xue Fu Zhu Yu Tang, plus Shao Fu Zhu Yu Tang.

Liver qi stagnation is caused by emotional stress and possibly depression. The woman with liver qi stagnation may have painful, irregular periods, with scanty, pale menstrual blood or dark blood and clots. Her tongue may be pale red with a white coating.

Herbal remedies include Kai Yu Zhong Yu Tang, and Hei Xiao Yao San.

Damp-phlegm obstruction can occur if a woman is chronically overweight, eating greasy foods. She may have irregular periods with clots and a white sticky vaginal discharge. She may be gaining weight, experiencing dizziness, nausea, palpitations and congestion in her chest. Her tongue may be gray with a white sticky coating.

Herbal remedies might be Qi Gong Wan, and Cang Fu Dao Tan Wan.

Damp heat can result from a diet of fatty foods and alcohol. Periods may be irregular, spotty and delayed. She may have a white discharge, low-grade fever and abdominal pain. She may have a red tongue with a white or yellow sticky coating.

An herbal remedy would be Jie Du Si Wu Tang.
