Dr. Harner:
PCL stands for posterior cruciate ligament. It’s a ligament that’s within the knee; we call it intra-articular. It’s a very strong ligament. It’s about twice as large as the ACL. It’s in the back of the knee, and posterior anatomically means on the back, so that’s why it’s called the posterior cruciate ligament.
