Dr. Evans:
Part of that is it’s good doctors and good nurses, people who are motivated to go through the approval process and demonstrate to a national regulatory board, “We do everything right and we do it every single time.” That’s really the key thing for Stroke Centers of Excellence; the only acceptable standard is 100% doing it right every single time.
What that means is that hospitals that have a Stroke Center of Excellence certification or are considered a Gold Medal Stroke Hospital from the American Heart Association, they have demonstrated that over an extended period of time, every single one of their patients gets all of the appropriate medications, has all of the appropriate therapy, and has all of their stroke risk factors addressed every time that they have come to the hospital, and I think for myself personally and for my patients, I don’t want to accept anything less than the absolute best we can give.
