I was a burned-out traditional internist and then in 2005 discovered integrative medicine and started helping myself and my patients with nutrition, exercise, sunshine, sleep, supplements and bio-identical hormones. Traditional hormone replacement therapies (HRT) and most doctors try to help menopausal women by offering ways to relieve the hot flashes, night sweats, and vaginal dryness that are so common during and after menopause. Many alternative practitioners, books, and websites also have the same goal. But, focusing on these menopause symptoms alone (whether the treatment is effective or not) does not address the primary problem causing the menopause symptoms and allows it to continue festering inside. Ignoring the primary problem at the root of menopause only leads to ineffective treatments and more problems down the road.
