I had unprotected sex September 20th but I am on birth control. My period was from September 11th-15th and according to My Days Calender I should have gotten my period today. I've had cramps all week and my breasts are sore, but I woke up to no period. This is my first year in college and im under a lot of stress but I am worried im pregnant and don't know what to do

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER and thank you for coming to us with your concern about a late start to your period this month.

As long as you have been taking your birth control pills consistently, you were protected when you had sex on September 20.

High stress levels, as you are experiencing as a college freshman, can interfere with the normal start of a period. Try to relax.

Regards,
Maryann

I wouldn't take the pill at the same time everyday sometimes I'd be off by either an hour before or an hour after... Could this mean I'm pregnant

Hello Anonymous,

Though it is recommended that you take your daily pill at the same time everyday, I don't thin an hour before or after should affect the degree of protection.

If you do not get your period by the time you finish the inactive pills, take a home pregnancy test. I really don't think you are pregnant, just very stressed out. But, taking the test might give you peace of mind.

Maryann

What is worrying me is the cramps and soreness in my breasts because should this be happening even if im just stressed? I feel as though I've gained weight over the past few weeks as well

Hello Anonymous,

Cramps and breast soreness could be premenstrual symptoms and your period is about to start. Not uncommon to gain a few pounds once you start college. This is sometimes called the "Freshman Fifteen".

Please stop worrying. It will only make matters worse.

Regards,
Maryann
