Another "Pregnant? or just Stress-induced missed period?" question

The start of my most recent period was on Feb 26 - projected ovulation date being March 14, projected next period March 28 (via MyMonthlyCycles, where I have been keeping track of my period for 1 year). Average cycle - 30 days.

We had protected intercourse on March 3 and 24. The condom didn't break; slipped down maybe an inch but we pushed it right back up.

Now my period is 3 or 4 days late (depending if you count the 28th), with no usual signs of cramping etc that I normally get. Took two HPT's and both came out negative. Discharge looks normal, no tenderness of breasts or anything. I have had a little bit of an upset stomach but I think I may just be getting sick - I am under quite a bit of stress.

I know it's unlikely that I am pregnant, but I am paranoid since I can't afford to have a child right now. I have heard that stress really can throw off a regular period (I have been regular for 8 years now), but I have a hard time believing it since I am so paranoid... help? I don't know what's wrong with me!

Have a GYNO appt coming up in a month, but I'm the type of person who likes to know without going to the doc! It sure would be nice if my period would come!

Hi, is it normal to have pms cramping for 4 days but do not see an actual period? I never fully finished my last pill pack and have stopped taking them. Could that be a cause? Its been 5 weeks since ive seen my last period. But if your body is suppose to go back to normal just after a couple days I dont understand why I havnt gotten it yet. Especially because cause right after I stopped taking them I had bleeding for a few days. So doesnt that mean I should be back on track?

Hi Anon,

PMS can start a week or two before your actual period starts. You mentioned that you were bleeding after you stopped taking the pills-- that was your period. Your pill pack has a placebo week and that's usually when you get your period, since you didn't finish and stopped taking them completely your body assumed you were on the placebo week.

hello, i'm really new to this site but i need some help! & i see alot of women on this site getting relief. so here it goes =)

well me & my boyfriend had sex for the first time on may 20. he used a condom (both times). he pulled out before ejaculating and we checked the condoms, nothing teared. i got my period on may 27, which is weird. and it ended on june 2. we had sex (with condoms) the next day. we also had sex a couple times after that but we always used condoms correctly & they didn't break, no holes. we double checked. we were very careful while having sex. but now i missed my period. since i ended on june 2, i was supposed to get it on june 23. i'm a week late. i'm really stressed out about this. i'm also stressed about other things (school, friends, my boyfriend going away for 6 months). i heard stress can delay your period. but i'm super scared! i'm 16. i didn't take a pregnancy test yet but i will soon. any advice?!?! i'm freaking out!
PLS & THANKS!

Hawaii girl,

I'm not quite sure that you are actually "late". Your menstrual cycle can vary from 28-35 days and many times teenagers will have irregular cycles. If you have always had a 28 day cycle, then you can test for pregnancy. With that being said, if you used protection when you had sex with your boyfriend then I think this delay may be attributed to stress. If you want to ease your mind, take the test :)

Best wishes,

Rosa

Hi Chari,
Missing a period for 3 months is abnormal. You could take a home pregnancy test. If the results are negative, I suggest you make an appointment with your gynecologist. When oral contraceptives are stopped, it may take three to six months to resume regular ovulation and menstruation. This is just one of several causes of amenorrhea, which is a condition marked by the absence of at least 3 periods in a row.

Hi, I have a question. I don't know if I am just getting myself worked up over nothing so, here goes. I last had sex (unprotected - stupid) on 28th january but he did not ejaculate. Anyway I was taking my pill, I'd had a period which finished about two days before I had sex. I then came off my pill about a week after having sex. I had a period at the beginning of feb and also at the end of feb, I had a period at the end of march also, although it was only about 3 days long when usually they are 3-5 days. I haven't had a period since then and it is now June, seeing as it is the end of june I should be due for a period now. My stomach is bloated a little like I should be having my period but it hasn't come for almost 3 months now. What are the chances that I could be pregnant? I don't really have any symptoms like nausea or sore/swollen breasts. Maybe it has something to do with coming off the pill? I was on it for 3 and a half years and before that my periods were fairly irregular where I could probably skip one for a month. I've been getting worked up about this for the past week its stressing me out which, I am guessing isn't helping my period to come along either. Can you help me? - Charl.

Omg can someone please help me ! I usually do not engage in sexual activity maybe a few times out the year , I had a period april 21st and then I believe my second period came may the 18th or 19th to be exact . I had sex june 11th and it was protected I do not believe in unprotected sex until I'm married , well the sex was rough and I'm a very tight when I went to the bathroom there was a tad bit of blood. I have been stressed out ever since I had sex because I regret doing it , I usually look on the ovulation calendar and it showed me that I would have ovulated the end of may up until june 2nd or 3rd , my period was due either june 16th or 17th and its still not here, I can not sleep I stress out so much its driving me crazy I do not want to get pregnant anytime soon. Yesterday my stomach was hurting like my period was going to come but it didn't and when I wiped today early morning it was faint brown on the tissue , this is stressing me out so bad I really need help =[
As I stated I had protected sex june 11th five or six days before my period was due, I am so scared and stress non stop!

Hi,
I am not sure why you have scared yourself so much into thinking you are pregnant, when you said yourself that you had unprotected sex, sex was rough and you had a "tad bit of blood" after using the restroom. These are not signs of pregnancy.

You then are having pre-menstrual symptoms, you have a little bit of brown blood on the tissue paper after using the bathroom, and it is about the time for your period to start.

Sounds like your period is about to begin, therefore, you would not be pregnant. You've answered your own question in your post...but got yourself emotionally worried. You are using good choices with protected sex, and you can be confident in that.

Thank you Very much for answering my post , my period came june 19th after being a few days late and I am assuming it was stress from being upset about having sex . I am choosing to be celibate once again even protected sex is to much of a headache . Once again thanks for the reply !
