Birth Control and New pack

I just finished my period and I was suppose to start my new pack yesterday Sept. 24 (I started my packs on Wednesdays). My pills come with the brown iron pills which i don't take and I was suppose to take the active pill yesterday, I did not get a chance to go pick up my new pack and now its Sept. 25. I had sexual relations yesterday and like I said I did not take the new pack (pill), I am going today to get the new pack to start it today. Do you think that i'm at risk for pregnancy or am I okay?

Guide

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER and thank you for your question.

You might be at a low risk for pregnancy because you had missed the first active pill in your pack and had unprotected sex. By missing the first active pill, you extended the inactive hormone period.

The last seven pills in a pack of birth control pills do not contain any hormones. This triggers your body to start menstruation. Since you just finished your period, there is a very low risk that you could have ovulated yesterday, thus increasing the risk for pregnancy.

As a rule of thumb, if you go seven days or more without taking an active pill, use another form of contraceptive, like a condom.

Regards,
Maryann
