Can I be pregnant?

Hi, I just recently decided that I was going to have sex with my long term boyfriend. I started birth control in May 2nd which was the first day of my period. In that week I missed one pill so I doubled up the next day. On Friday May 9th I had sex with my boyfriend for the first time. We used a condom and he didn't ejaculate at all. On Saturday May 11th we had sex numerous times I one day and we used a condom the whole time. He ejaculated in me with a condom once then I told him not to do that anymore. Every time after we used the condom we would test it and fill it up with water just to make sure there were no holes. None of them had holes and none of them leaked. So I'm still really worried that I can get pregnant from having done it so much in one day. Is there a possibility that I can be? Also I was also worried that some ejaculate must have came inside me because when we were doing it he wasn't fully erect and the condom wasn't a tight fit. And I'm scared that I could have been exposed to his ejaculate. Please help me! Should I take plan B?

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to the EmpowHER community and thank you for reaching out to us with your concern.

I do not think you are at risk of becoming pregnant. You did the right thing by doubling up to make up for the missed dose.

Were you instructed by your gynecologist to start taking the birth control pills on the first day of your period?

When you had sexual intercourse on May 9 and 11 were you still menstruating?

Beside the protection of the oral contraceptive, you would not have been ovulating on May 9 and 11. It was too soon in your menstrual cycle. You are at risk of conceiving when you have unprotected sex during ovulation. On average, the changes are greatest on days 13 to 16 of the menstrual cycle (day one of the menstrual period is the day you started your period -May 2).

Does this answer your question?

Regards,
Maryann
