I am a first day starter and missed the first pill of my pack (started a day late) I take Yaz. according to the pill pack, it says missing only one in the first week requires no back up protection. At the end of that first week (The day after the last day of withdrawal bleeding) I had unprotected sex, though my partner withdrew. On Tuesday and Wednesday (the sex was on sunday) I missed my pills, and doubled up on Thursday and Friday. What are the chances of pregancy?

Hello Anonymous,

Have you discussed this with your gynecologist? Consider talking to your doctor about your chances of conceiving.

Hi. I've been taking althea pills for 5 years now. What are the long term side effects. Will this cause infertility? Also, i have a retroverted uterus and diagnosed with polycystic ovaries so i am taking the pills. Will this affect chances of conceiving a baby?

Hello Anonymous,

When you say you had unprotected sex on Thursday, do you mean you missed a pill on Thursday, as well as Friday and Saturday?

If so, there was a chance of getting pregnant, because with a missed dose or more, and not making up for that until Sunday, your protective hormone levels dropped. That could trigger ovulation. Factor in that released sperm can live in a woman's body for three days, even up to five days.

Hello,
Friday night I had unprotected sex with my boyfriend and I took my pill that night. Saturday however I was not able to take my pill but doubled up on Sunday night. This was on the last week of my active pills. What is the probability I am pregnant? I am worried. Thanks

Hello Anonymous,

Do you usually take your daily birth control pill at night? If so, then you were probably not at any risk for having intercourse on Friday night.

You did the right thing when you doubled up on Sunday. You will know for sure once you start having bleeding.

Hello,

I took birth control pill on Thursday morning at my regular time and had unprotected sex Thursday night. Friday morning I took the pill at regular time, but the Saturday pill I took over 20 hours late. Sunday I took at regular time again. What are my chances of getting pregnant? I noticed some light most brown spotting this morning (Sunday), but this usually happens if I take a pill late. Also feeling a little crampy. I'm in the second week of my pill pack

Hi Anonymous,

If you took your birth control pill on Thursday morning, at the regular time, then it was protected intercourse on Thursday night.

Taking the pill 20 hours late did cause a drop in hormone levels, and as you are aware did cause the brown spotting. But, there would have been no risk for pregnancy if you did not have intercourse other than on Thursday night.

I took my birth control pill Thursday and Thursday night had unprotected sex with my husband and he ejaculated inside. But the issue is we left the next day for a trip and I forgot my pills at home and won't be able to get them until Sunday. So more than 48 hours without. Should I go to the store and get emergency birth control or if I just take two Sunday will I be okay? Also this is a few days before my ovulation day. Please help?

Hello Anonymous,

If you took your daily birth control pill on Thursday, then it was protected intercouse that night.

Did you take your pill on Friday? Did you have intercourse on Saturday and or Sunday, when you did not have your pills to take?

If you did not have intercourse on those two days, there is no need to take an emergency contraceptive.

I realize it is now Monday, but you should take the two missed doses.

Birth control pills prevent pregnancy by preventing ovulation. By missing doses, hormone levels drop and that can trigger ovulation.

Consult your gynecologist to be sure. But, I would suggest make up for the missed doses, continue to take your pills at the same time each day, and if you have intercourse, use backup protection, like a condom, for the rest of the week.

Maryann
