Over dosage of Postinor 2

I took both pills in one dosage, is this dangerous or less effective? Also, what are the usual side effects after taking the pills and how soon after? I took the pills about a 17 days ago and now I'm spotting ( not heavy but blood is present). Could this be a side effect?

Hi Anonymous,

If you are having vaginal bleeding, you are not pregnant and Postinor-2 worked.
Some women do experience changes in their menstrual cycle after taking the pill. Periods can start earlier or later than normal and flow can be lighter or heavier than normal. You had a earlier period as a side effect of the pill.
Your next period should be closer to normal. To be safe, use birth control whenever you have sex.

Hello tibs,

It is too late now.

Proper use of Postinor-2 : take one tablet as soon as possible but no later than 72 hours, after you have unprotected sex. It is important to take the second tablet 12 hours and no longer than 16 hours after the first tablet. The tablets work better the sooner you take them after having unprotected sex.
When taken as directed, Postinor-2 is 85% effective.

Moving forward, you need to use some form of birth control on a regular basis. Postinor-2 is an emergency contraceptive and should not be used as a form of birth control.

Hi, I took the first tablet of Postinor 2 within 1 hour after I had sex. But I then took the second one 30 minutes late (after the 12 hours) . Would it still work? Also its only been 3 days since I had sex, and now i feel a bit of nausea. I felt a bit weird even after taking a cup of tea. Does this mean anything? or do the side effects of the pill last for 3 days?
I dont know if its just me feeling paranoid or nervous, but I feel so scared. I'm only 19. Maybe I feel like i'm pregnant because i keep panicking now. How soon could i check if i'm pregnant?

Hello Anonymous,
Taking the second dose 30 minutes late should not decrease its effectiveness. It is estimated that Postinor -2 prevents about 85% effective in preventing pregnancy.

Anxiety can be causing your feelings of nausea.

If you do not start your period within 3 weeks of taking Postinor-2, you should take a home pregnancy test.

Hi, Thankyou for your time to reply me. Its been 6 days and now i've started bleeding. But my due date for periods is on 26th. Is this the withdrawal bleeding that I have now? Does this mean I'm not pregnant and the pill has worked? and would that mean that my periods would be late since the bleeding is somewhat close to the due date?

Hello Anonymous,

As I mentioned in my reply to the previous post on a similar issue, Postinor 2, when taken as directed, is effective in preventing pregnancy. Logically, its effectiveness will decrease if not taken correctly. The only way to know if it worked is to wait for your next period. If you do not start your period within 3 weeks after taking it, test for pregnancy.

Hello Anonymous,

Postinor 2 can be 95 percent effective in preventing a pregnancy, if taken in the first 24 hours, and 89 percent effective up to 72 hours. Its ability to prevent a pregnancy decreases over time, especially after 72 hours.

If you never took the second pill, its effectiveness may be decreased. You could ask your gynecologist. If you do not start your period within 3 weeks of taking the pill, you should test for pregnancy.
