Guide

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER and thank you for coming to us for advice.

When was the blood pregnancy test done? Had you consulted your gynecologist who ordered the test?

When did you do the home pregnancy tests? Did you test in the morning and did you use the first urine of the day?

You are correct. the withdrawal method is not an effective form of birth control.
As you know, a pregnancy test checks hCG levels. This hormone is produced only during pregnancy. Levels can be detected in blood about 11 days following conception and in urine about 12 to 14 days following conception.

Once the fertilized egg has implanted itself in the uterine lining, which takes about six to 12 days following unprotected intercourse, hCG starts to be produced.

So much of the accuracy of a pregnancy test depends on when the test is done.

Anonymous, if you have already consulted your gynecologist, please speak with him or her again.

Otherwise, relax and wait until your period is late by at least one week. I appreciate that you normally have a regular menstrual cycle, but stress, especially if you have been stressing since having sex with the withdrawal method, can be causing the delay.

Regards,
Maryann
