Hi I'm 19 only had 1 boyfriend but also seen a few guys which i was sexualy active with. I met the nicest guy and keeps asking me if I'm a virgin and how far I've gone with my ex. I told him I have hooked up but not gone too far. Reason for me to not tell him the truth is because we have a turk is background and virginity is really a big thing for our background. He has that mentality whereas I don't. If tell him I'm not a virgin he will think bad of me and not want me . But I also don't wanna lie to the person I see myself with in the future... help ? I'm considering a hymen reconstruction?

Guide

Hi anon and thanks for your question.

In most cultures, a virgin is a description of a women who has not had sexual intercourse; penis-to-vagina specifically. If you have had sexual intercourse, then you would not be considered a virgin.

It's your own personal decision on what you chose to share with the men you date. In terms of hymen reconstruction that's also a personal decision.

Some women have hymens intact into their adulthood, other women have small hymens, no hymen or a hymen that was normally expanded through normal activity in their childhood (playing, exercising, etc). Some women experience pain with their hymen "breaking", and others do not...this is all normal!

Many women are under the impression that once you lose your virginity, this causes bleeding. That is not the case with all women.

Hope this is helpful!

Pam
