Q:

Why has my period not arrived?

So last week I gave my boyfriend a hand job. He got semen on his hands and he briefly washed them. After that he may have put his hands in his mouth, and I know that sperm thrive warm wet environments which the mouth is. So I figured that the sperm on his hands could have transfered to his own mouth. He then drank alcohol and soft drinks and ate food. After, he gave me oral. Could any of the sperm in his mouth transferred to my vagina and cause pregnancy? Can sperm survive in the mouth even if there was any there? Do the enzymes kill them? Or can they survive due to the warm wet environment? I need peace of mind :(

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER and thank you for reaching out to us.

Most likely, all the semen was removed when your boyfriend washed his hands. Secondly, if any did get into his mouth, swallowing would have taken it along with what he drank from the mouth, down the esophagus and into his digestive tract.

Bottom line, no risk for pregnancy.

Thank you so much for this:). Just for a bit more peace of mind, do you know how long sperm would actually survive in the mouth, would alcohol, food and enzymes etc kill them? Thanks in advance you are a big help!

Hi Anonymous,

As I said in my previous reply, any sperm would have been swallowed and destroyed by the digestive gastric enzymes.

Thank you for this info! Even if when the sperm was in the mouth and there was no swallowing would they be able to survive? Like can they actually survive in the environment of a mouth? :)

Hello Anonymous,

No. Salivary amylase, which is secreted by the salivary glands in the mouth, work to break down ingested food. Logically, would also "destroy" sperm.
