Annette explains what the Ovarian Cancer Alliance of Arizona is.
Annette:
The Ovarian Cancer Alliance of Arizona is a grassroots organization. I am the President of the group and the co-founder of it. It is an organization to help women who have ovarian cancer or who care about this disease. What we are trying to do is inform women in this state about the disease.
We are part of a national organization, The Ovarian Cancer National Alliance, which I happen to serve on the National Board of Directors. We have a number of initiatives, not only to empower women who have the disease but to tell women who know nothing about it. You have to know about it to care about it.
We also inform our legislators and educate them so that they can make the proper decisions to help women in our community, so that they can be more receptive to improvements in healthcare treatments. We raise money for research.
Basically, what we are trying to do is assure that every woman, first of all, knows what’s going on with her body and secondly, if she has the disease, that she can live a longer, better life.
