Colleen, who receives treatment for ovarian cancer, shares why it is important for women to receive genetic testing to know if they are at risk for this condition.
Colleen:
I think what is important for women and for research as well is that women go through the genetic counseling. I have four daughters, and I went through the genetic counseling and my genetic counseling came back negative for the BRCA1 and BRCA2 which, I was relieved about, which, because it means that I am a less of a candidate for getting breast cancer, but I did the genetic counseling mainly for my daughters so that they would know. They would be prepared if I was positive for BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene.
