REALIZE® Band Access Port: How Does This Feel In Your Body?

Because of the REALIZE® Band I have a port and tubing and the band around my stomach in my body. That’s one of the things I was a little nervous about when we started. It’s another thing that I feel that Dr. Johnell has done research about is the testing on the bands before they were approved in the United States. The REALIZE® Band was approved later than the LAP-BAND®.

I feel that there was medical testing done, that having that in my body is safe. I don’t feel like there is going to be breakdown. If I do have problems or feel like there might be problems I feel like I can go to Dr. Johnell and have it removed.

The port is something that I can feel especially as I’ve lost more and more weight; it’s a bump in my stomach. I can feel it every day. It’s just part of my body. I don’t feel uncomfortable with it.

Another question people have asked me that they’ve been concerned about is when you are having the fluid checked or put in and removed it’s a poke through the skin with a needle. It’s very brief. It’s not painful. It’s not even like having a shot because with a shot you have chemicals or the immunization vaccination going through your body. There’s no sting and so it’s not something that ever bothered me and it’s not something that I need to have done anymore either.
