So, I had sex right after my period ended (oct 30) and it was unprotected. I got a little paranoid (even though I think he did not came inside me) and took the next choice pill the next day.. followed all the instructions. but now, six days later i am bleeding seems like a menstruation. What is this? is this going to be menstruation for the month of November? My next due date is 21/22. Am I going to get my period by then? I am kind of freaking out. help please.

Hi Maryann! Thank you so much for your feedback... I really do appreciate it... I took another Home pregnancy test this morning (it has now been 20 days since the incident) and again it was negative. But I'm wondering some other things.... How common is it to get negative results and still be pregnant? I am planning to go to that clinic tmrw... Also, do you think that bleeding I had 12 days after taking next choice was my period but just decided to come earlier bc of the pills? any thoughts on this would be really appreciated :)

Dear Anon,

If you have already taken two pregnancy tests which both came back negative, then you are not pregnant. Home pregnancy tests are 97-99% accurate, especially if you have already had a missed period or it has been more than two weeks since you had unprotected sex. It is a very common side effect of next choice to either give you an early period or a late one. Please take the time to read the pamphlet from your Next Choice box or visit: http://www.mynextchoice.com/ for more information.

Hi Rosa! Thank you so much for your feedback... i guess im just nervous.... i've the info for next choice and had no symptoms whatsoever, except the bleeding 12 days after.... (which is actually 27 exact days from the first day of my last period...) so it seems to make sense that im probably in the clear... and the chances of being preggers even with a negative result twice is probably slim... right?
I just want to be sure before it's too late and more drastic measures are needed :(

Implantation bleeding is typically defined as bleeding that occurs 10 to 14 days after conception, when the fertilized egg attaches to the lining of the uterus. It is thought to result from blood leaking from the implanted egg into the uterine cavity. Implantation bleeding generally lasts for a short time, and is usually much lighter and occurs earlier than a menstrual period. But, since you took Next Choice within the recommended time, you did not conceive so this cannot be implantation bleeding. A blood test can detect hcG ( the pregnancy hormone) as early as 11 days after conception.
I hope this information is helpful.

Thanks Maryann! Do you think having tests done at a clinic would be more accurate? My fear is that it is too soon to tell and from things I have read online - what is happening is a result of the pills OR "implantation bleeding"??? Dont know if that's what it could be considering it was only heavy for a day? My period is usually a solid 3 days and then tapers off but it does make sense that it could be the pills doing this... any thoughts regarding implantation bleeding?

Hi,
Try to relax. When taken within 72 hours after having unprotected sex, Next Choice reduces your risk of pregnancy by as much as 89%. You took it correctly and should be protected. You will notice irregular menstrual cycles for a while, which is a side effect of Next Choice.

so i was wondering if someone could shed some light to me as im really scared.... I had unprotected sex 1 week after my very normal period ended.... took the next choice pills 38 hours after the incident, and had bleeding 12 days after for 2 and a half days (but only the first day was heavy) now im spotting extremely lightly and not sure what that means.... I took a pregnancy test this morning (16 days after the incident) and it's negative but I feel like it could be too early too tell :(
Will wait one week to take another pregnancy test and will go to a clinic for for testing... but if anyone with knowledge in this area could maybe share some advise or thoughts? please :'(

Hi Sarah,
Your next period could be heavier or lighter, or earlier or later. I can't predict how long the bleeding will last. But, if it lasts longer than 7 days, call your doctor just to be safe. You might want to consider some form of birth control instead of taking an emergency contraceptive as frequently as you have.
