I had sex three months ago, and I have had two periiods since. I have a period two weeks after I lost my virginity, and then another one a month later, that one was exceptionally heavy. But this month I have not. Well not yet. It was due this week but they aren't 100% regular cause I'm only 16. Do you think I could be pregnant. I am so worried because if I am I'd be like 3 months pregnant. and I've just started my a levels so I'm stressing about them too. But if I go to doctors its hard to get to them because I live in a village in countryside with no shops. I'm stressing so much. Can any of you offer me some help or advice? Thank you.

so i had protected sex( used condom that didn't break/ pull out) in February, got my period 16 days later, a lot like usual, still had my heavy menstrual cramps . I got my usual ovulation discharge then got my period again , a month after the first, again seemed regular. I am still freaking out thinking i may be pregnant everyone tells me it is impossible. What do you think?

I had protected sex at the very beginning of January and it's April now, I got my cycle in Jan. Feb. And in march. But I have not had it since then and it's been over 42 days. Normal for me is 35 days in between...could something be wrong?

Hello Anonymous,

The menstrual cycle is regulated by a precise balance of hormones. Many factors can upset this balance and cause menstrual irregularities.

Pregnancy can be ruled out if you have not had unprotected intercourse since your last period in March.

High levels of stress, extreme exercising, dramatic weight loss or weight gain and illness such as having seasonal influenza can cause you to be late.

Consult your gynecologist if you miss a period for this month.

Maryann

Hello Anonymous,

Even if you did conceive when you had sex in January, that early pregnancy was lost when you bleed for most of the month of February.

A period that lasts almost one month is abnormal. Missing a period entirely for one month suggests a hormonal imbalance.

The menstrual cycle is regulated by a very precise balance of hormones. Any upset to that balance leads to irregularities.

Please schedule an appointment with your gynecologist.

Maryann

Hello Maryann,

Hello Anonymous,

Pregnancy can definitely be ruled out since you have not had sexual intercourse in nearly two years.

It is possible, depending on your age, that you have entered perimenopause. Irregular menstrual cycles is an early sign that your estrogen levels are fluctuating. Some women begin perimenopause in their late 40s.
