I am concerned that they wont be able to live and be effective if the probiotic powder is smothered in coconut oil..

If I am making a probiotic vaginal suppository from scratch, can I use coconut oil as a base?

Hello Anonymous,

Do you have a recipe for making a probiotic vaginal suppository?

Probiotic vaginal suppositories that contain lactobacilli have proven to be effective in treating and preventing bacterial vaginosis and yeast infections.

I did find a recipe for a vaginal suppository, but it does not include a probiotic. However, coconut oil and coconut butter are ingredients. Another recipe calls for plain organic yogurt and the content of acidophilus capsules.

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER and thank you for coming to us with your question regarding using coconut oil to lubricated a probiotic vaginal suppository.

The probiotics in yogurt and in certain vaginal suppositories may reduce the recurrence of bacterial vaginosis, which is the most common type of vaginal infection among women of childbearing age.

From what I have read, you are to insert one suppository high up in the vagina. I do not see instructions to lubricate the suppository. Please read and follow the directions on the product package. I would avoid using coconut oil as a lubricant. You could always ask your pharmacist.
