ask: Can Next Choice delay your period yet cause no side effects?
My boyfriend and I had sex on Saturday, and it was not until he pulled out that we realized the condom had a tear it in. Not by much, but enough that some may have gotten inside. Seven hours after it happened, I began taking Next Choice. My period was supposed to come this week, today, Wednesday, and it has not come. I have also had no side effects either. Does this mean that the medication has not worked yet? Also, how long can your period be delayed? Since my period was so close to the time of the accident, I don't believe I was fertile at all so that's one positive. I know it has only been 3 days since taking next choice, but I'd just like to be certain that everything is going to be okay.

Hi Anon
Thanks for your question! You are right in that your cycle was in it's more "safe" time than mid-cycle although because our cycles can vary, there is no true safe time.
Next Choice does have a side effect of changing the monthly cycle of the month you took it, so this may be what's happening. But since your period is due this week, it could come at any time now so there is no need to worry just yet. If you did get pregnant from sex on Sunday, a test would not be accurate for another two weeks at least so if you're period does not come, you can take a test then.
For more information, check out the Next Choice website here: http://www.mynextchoice.com/
While we can't be sure of anything, I suspect it's far more likely that you're not pregnant than pregnant. Keep us posted!

I got my period today (or so I hope.) I'm not sure if it will turn into just spotting. If it does, does that still mean there is a chance?
May 20, 2011 - 10:00pmHi again Anonymous,
As Susan mentioned above, your probably NOT pregnant but we cannot say that for certain as there is always that possibility. With that said, bleeding is a good sign of "not pregnant". If you continue to be concerned, take a pregnancy test to settle your nerves.
Good luck,

Hi ny name is MARIANA I need some help can someone please help me. I will appreciated a lot.I had unprotected sex on december 17 2011 and I took the Next Choice pill the next day like at 7 pm and i took the other one 12 hours later. Then I I had unprotected sex again by December 30, and I took the Next Choice pilll the next day again. Then by a week later I sudenly started bleeding something brown and then it became heavier like blood but suddenly stopped and I supposed to get my period by january 11,2012 but I haven't got my period? Is there a probability I could get pregnant? How many days should I wait? I actually always get my period on time but Now it does't.Can you please help me..
January 16, 2012 - 11:48amBecause you took Next Choice twice in a very short time, December 18, December 19 and December 31, you have upset your menstrual cycle.
Next Choice will cause changes in a woman's menstrual cycle with a period coming earlier or later and the flow can be lighter, heavier or more spotting than a normal period.
If you don't get your period by next week, get a pregnancy test to be sure that you are not pregnant.
Please consider a form of birth control, either oral contraceptive pills or the Depo-Provera shot, instead of using Next Choice. Next Choice is not to be used as a form of birth control; it is an emergency contraceptive pill.

January 16, 2012 - 8:43pmMy boyfriend and I had sex around the 13th of January and the next day I took Next Choice. On the 19th of January, my period started(right when it was supposed to based on my calculations). It was a full period so I figured everything was fine. My next period was due sometime between the 16th and 23rd of February but on Wednesday I started having really light bleeding and it was sometimes dark and sometimes bright red. I think I've stopped bleeding now. Is there a possibility that I am pregnant? I figured not since I had a full period after taking the morning after pill. How long after taking it does it affect your menstrual cycle? Could it be just because of taking the pills?
February 11, 2012 - 9:57pmHi Anonymous,
Yes, your period being irregular certainly can be related to taking Next Choice. It is common to have irregular periods up to two cycles after taking the pill and having a period is a good sign of "not pregnant". Therfore, if you are concerned, take a pregnancy test for a piece of mind although it is very common to have irregular cycles.
Hope this helps,

Ok. I'm about the same case. Little different. Me and my husband had sex Friday Feb. 3rd. Then I took Next Choice at around 9pm Saturday 4th. Then, I was supposed to take it Sunday at 9am, but I forgot rushing to go to church and took it that Sunday about 5pm. That same day, we had unprotected sex again. (I know :S), It's been a week that I took the AMP and I'm supposed to get my period Feb. 16. This morning I was going to brush my teeth and felt some nausea. Any chance of being pregnant? I took a test this past Friday Fe. 10 and came out negative. But I'm feeling extremely weird, or could be only psychological?
Thanks,
Chaming
February 13, 2012 - 9:05amI took Next Choice because the condom broke and we didn't know until he pulled out. Well it happened on the 22nd and I took next choice about 1 hour after. Its already been a full day and I haven't had any side effects that were listed on the box. Does that mean it didn't work? Or will side effects come days after? I'm like terrified :(
