Hello Anonymous,

Postinor 2 prevents pregnancy by preventing ovulation. So, you were still protected when you had intercourse again, before taking the second pill.

If you and your husband are not ready to be parents, please use some type of birth control, such as condoms, oral contraceptives or an IUD.

An emergency contraceptive is intended for use in an emergency situation of contraceptive failure. You should never take it more than once per menstrual cycle nor depend on it as your regular form of birth control.

Hello Anonymous,

Postinor 2 prevents pregnancy by preventing ovulation. So, you would still have been protected when you had intercourse two hours after taking the second pill.

However, I must stress that you should not depend on an emergency contraceptive as your regular form of birth control.
It is for emergency situations and should never be taken frequently.

Hello Dr. Please if someone had sex in the midnight and the first tablet is taken in the morning as soon as possible but the second tablet is not taken after 12hrs. Would that person still be pregnant?

Hello Anonymous,

The effectiveness of an ECP would be decreased if not taken as directed. If the person did not take the second dose at all or later than 12 hours after the first, it is possible that pregnancy was not prevented.

She can always check with her gynecologist or a pharmacist.

Hi Dr. I had unprotected sex with my gf......it makes two weeks today...and she's been disturbing that she hasn't seen her period that she normally sees between the days of 4-6 of every month. What do we do to prevent pregnancy. Thanks in advance.

Hello Anonymous,

It is too late to do anything to prevent a pregnancy. All that she can do is confirm whether or not she is pregnant. She needs to test, in the morning and use the first urine of the day. Depending on the results, she needs to be seen by a gynecologist.

I had my last period on 9th April, I had unprotected sex on 18th April , then I took 2 tablets of postinor immediately and later took another 2 twelve hours later. My period is supposed to come today being 28days after my last period. Yesterday I took the pregnancy test strip and I saw a bold line on the control line and a faint line on the test line. Pls what does it mean. Pls I don't want to be pregnant

Hello Anonymous,

Please refer to the pregnancy test package to know what a bold line on the control line and faint line on the test line mean. Without the test package in front of me, I cannot answer your question.

I can tell you that some women have changes in their menstrual cycle as a side effect. Their next monthly period can start earlier or later than expected.

Anonymous, wait another seven days and repeat the test. Test in the morning and use the first urine of the day. Read the directions before testing, familiarize yourself with how to read the test result and follow the directions carefully.

Regards,
Maryann
