Hello Anonymous,

Postinor 2 prevents pregnancy by preventing ovulation. It is most effective if taken before ovulation and as soon as possible after unprotected intercourse.

Anonymous, since you took it within a day, you should be protected.
If you do not have any vaginal bleeding within three weeks of taking it, test for pregnancy.

Maryann

Hello Anonymous,

When did your wife take Postinor 2? Did she ever get her period or have any bleeding after she took the pill?

How far along is she in her pregnancy? Did she tell her doctor that she took Postinor 2?

A woman should not take Postinor 2 if she is re pregnant or has had unprotected intercourse more than 72 hours earlier in the same menstrual cycle, because she may already be pregnant.

Emergency contraceptive pills ("morning after pills" or "day after pills") do not appear to cause any birth defects. Although no reliable studies have looked specifically at women who gave birth after using emergency contraception, strong reasons exist for concluding that emergency contraceptive pills will not harm a developing fetus.

In the case of progestin-only pills (like Plan B One-Step, Next Choice One Dose, Next Choice or Levonorgestrel Tablets), these pills contain the same hormones as many daily birth control pills, which a number of studies have found cause no increased risk of birth defects in children born to women who continued to take them because they didn’t realize they were pregnant.

As a result, the United States Food and Drug Administration removed warnings about the possibility that oral contraceptives could harm a fetus several years ago.

In addition, even if you don’t realize you are pregnant, you would take emergency contraceptive pills long before the organs would start to develop (a process called “organogenesis”), making it extremely unlikely that emergency contraception would lead to birth defects.

Maryann

Hello Maryann,
Thanks for the response its really helpful coz i was worried about the baby. My wife's period March 5-10th, intercourse 17th and used postinor 2 on the 18th. No signs of bleeding or any sign of sort. Was surprised that the postinor failed when she missed her period the following month.

Hi Anonymous,

Has a pregnancy been confirmed? Did your wife take a pregnancy test?

I ask because one side effect of Postinor 2 is a change in the menstrual cycle. Some women will start the next period earlier or later than expected.

Maryann
