I have had diarrhea for several years. When i get up in the morning, I usually have to go to the washroom twice to three times for the first hour, and it is always runny. Some days I have to go to the washroom from 10-15 times, and it is always a runny stool.
When I eat something, anything really, it goes right through me. Very very seldom do I have a hard stool, never really. Anytime I go to the washroom it is 9 times out of 10 a runny stool. Why is this? I have never had this checked out and don't know if I should.

Dear Deanne,

Diarrhea is defined as more than three loose, liquid stools in a single day. It depletes your body of fluids and electrolytes. Diarrhea can be:

Acute—occurring suddenly, and lasting briefly
Recurring—occurring in recurrent episodes

Causes may include:

Food intolerance, such as lactose intolerance
Medications, including:
Magnesium-containing antacids
High blood pressure medications
Cancer chemotherapy
Irritable bowel syndrome (episodes of diarrhea often alternate with periods of constipation )
Injury to the bowel after radiation treatments for cancer
Malabsorption syndromes, such as:
Celiac sprue
Tropical sprue
Short bowel syndrome
Whipple's disease
Intestinal lymphangiectasia
Diseases of the pancreas and/or gallbladder
Inflammatory bowel diseases ( ulcerative colitis , Crohn's disease)
Chronic diseases, such as:
Liver disease
Addison's disease
Colon cancer
Intestinal surgery
Infections, including food poisoning, such as:
Bacterial: Campylobacter, Clostridium difficile, Salmonella, Shigella, and Escherichia coli
Viral: rotavirus , Norwalk virus , cytomegalovirus , herpes simplex virus , and viral hepatitis
Parasitic: Giardia lamblia , Entamoeba histolytica , Cryptosporidium,tapeworm , roundworm , flukes
Fungal: Candida (yeast)

Since you have chronic Diarrhea, please visit your doctor for a proper diagnosis. Diarrhea every day is not a normal finding and should always be evaluated.
