Q:

Does 3 days of withdrawal bleeding/menstruation mean she's not pregnant?

We had sex 2 - 3 weeks after her last menstruation and she had them irregularly. She took Nordette as ECP 18 hours after. 6 days after the dose, she bled heavily lasting for 3 days. She also had abdominal pains then and she said it was just like her period. I'm not sure exactly if it is her period or just the withdrawal bleeding.

Was that a sign that she's not pregnant?

Hi Anonymous,

According to the American Pregnancy Association, "...having sex during your period will more than likely not result in getting pregnant. More than likely, your ovulation is several days away decreasing any chances of conceiving during this time."

" The above applies for women who have typical 28 to 30 day or longer cycles. If you happen to be one of the individuals who has a shorter cycle there is a chance you could get pregnant while having sex during your period."

"If your cycle is shorter, for example every 21 to 24 days, this means you are ovulating earlier in the cycle. Sperm can live inside you for 2, 3 and up to 5 days. You could have sex towards the end of your bleeding and then actually conceive 4 or 5 days later with your early ovulation."

H! I had unprotected sex 2 days after my last day of period. I took ecp 48hrs later just to make sure I won't get pregnant. I had 3 days heavy bleeding after a week. And now my concern is I am 12 days late. I don't know why :(

This might sound icky but I'm still gonna asked it anyway. I've tried doing it once but I noticed when I'm on period I get really horny. So one time we tried to do it when I'm on my 3rd or 4th day of my period since it's not that strong. He came inside me. I know you're not supposed to do it since it increases for sexually transmitted diseases or infection. However some says ejaculating inside even though a woman is on period could have a chance of being pregnant. I wonder though, when you're in period it simply means the egg was not fertilize and there's no egg to be fertilize. If a guy comes inside of a girl who's on her period, I don't see the chance of pregnancy.

Any comment? Thanks- Kendra

Hello. My periods started on 16th january and we had unprotected sex (he did not ejaculate inside me, but pre ejaculate fluid may have spilled) on 6th Feb. My cycles are usually 29 days. I took Escapelle within the next 24 hrs. On 9th I had 3-4 drops of blood as spotting, light red in colour. I feels heavy on the lower abdomen with some lower abdomen pain. Please let me know where we stand now? Thank you

Hi A,

With your period starting on January 16, counting seven days of menstrual flow, your period should have ended on or about January 23. Ovulation occurs about day 14 of the new menstrual cycle, which should have been around January 30.

ESCAPELLE works by preventing ovulation.

Pre ejaculate fluid itself does not contain sperm. However, sperm left from a previous but recent ejaculation can remain in the urethra. Once he urinates, any stow away sperm is flushed out of the body.

I doubt you become pregnant because he didn't ejaculate, ovulation might have happened almost a week before and you had spotting three days after taking the pill. This would have been too early to be considered implantation bleeding.

The pill may cause your period for February to start earlier or later than expected. Menstrual flow might be lighter or heavier than normal.

Regards,
Maryann
