Q:

Does 3 days of withdrawal bleeding/menstruation mean she's not pregnant?

We had sex 2 - 3 weeks after her last menstruation and she had them irregularly. She took Nordette as ECP 18 hours after. 6 days after the dose, she bled heavily lasting for 3 days. She also had abdominal pains then and she said it was just like her period. I'm not sure exactly if it is her period or just the withdrawal bleeding.

Was that a sign that she's not pregnant?

Hi,

I had my last period January 3 and it ended up January 7. I had sex January 10 and I'm not fertile and he also did withdrawal I'm sure because it took time before the semen came out. He haven't masturbated the entire day. Is there a chance I'll be pregnant? Thanks. , Lostsoul

Hi Lostsoul,

This happened on day 7 of your menstrual cycle. Ovulation occurs around day 14. You are fertile five days before ovulation, which would be day 9 and on the day of ovulation.

I don't think you were at risk for becoming pregnant.

Maryann

Thanks. How did you know the days and all of that? Was trying to understand it better but it's more confusing that I imagine. Lostsoul

Hi Lostsoul,

A menstrual cycle is counted from the first day of 1 period to the first day of the next period. The average menstrual cycle is 28 days long. Cycles can range anywhere from 21 to 35 days in adults and from 21 to 45 days in young teens.

In the first half of the cycle, levels of estrogen (the “female hormone”) start to rise. Estrogen plays an important role in keeping you healthy, especially by helping you to build strong bones and to help keep them strong as you get older. Estrogen also makes the lining of the uterus (womb) grow and thicken. This lining of the womb is a place that will nourish the embryo if a pregnancy occurs. At the same time the lining of the womb is growing, an egg, or ovum, in one of the ovaries starts to mature. At about day 14 of an average 28-day cycle, the egg leaves the ovary. This is called ovulation.

After the egg has left the ovary, it travels through the fallopian tube to the uterus. Hormone levels rise and help prepare the uterine lining for pregnancy. A woman is most likely to get pregnant during the 3 days before or on the day of ovulation. Keep in mind, women with cycles that are shorter or longer than average may ovulate before or after day 14.

A woman becomes pregnant if the egg is fertilized by a man’s sperm cell and attaches to the uterine wall. If the egg is not fertilized, it will break apart. Then, hormone levels drop, and the thickened lining of the uterus is shed during the menstrual period.

Hope this helps you:)

I see thanks. According to my calendar my projected fertile window is January 13-19 and my ovulation is on the 18th, is this about right? My projected next period is February 1st. Comparing it to last month my cycle is about 29 days.

What do you think? Thanks. Lostsoul

Hi Lostsoul,

Sounds right to me. On a calendar, continue to mark the day your period starts and the day it finishes. In a few months, you will see a pattern develop. This will better help you understand your menstrual cycle.

Glad to help:)

I had unprotected sex on the Dec 23rd, i took a Plan B, 2-3 hours after. A week later, I bled for two days and spotting for one. I have an irregular period. I did a pregnancy test (10 days after the 2day bleeding/ 16 days after the unprotected sex), and it came out negative. But I'm still freaking out and haven't been had my mind eased for these past 2 weeks and I'm eagerly waiting for my period every second of the day. Should I be worried that I may be pregnant or not? Please help me!!
