Q:

Does 3 days of withdrawal bleeding/menstruation mean she's not pregnant?

We had sex 2 - 3 weeks after her last menstruation and she had them irregularly. She took Nordette as ECP 18 hours after. 6 days after the dose, she bled heavily lasting for 3 days. She also had abdominal pains then and she said it was just like her period. I'm not sure exactly if it is her period or just the withdrawal bleeding.

Was that a sign that she's not pregnant?

Hi my name is Eien. So this is my story.

I always have my period regularly every month and my last was November 8-13 (included the remaining bloods). November 21 I had unprotected sex and it was his second ejaculation (he said he came inside me) and we were both drunk. I didn't feel anything came out from me tho. I took Nordette 4 pills all at once (nov.23) then another 4 after 12 hrs that was on November 24. On December 5 I have bleeding that looks like period but now December 8 looks like it's stopping. I'm supposed to have my actual period December 9 (according to my period tracker).
Questions:
1. Am I safe from pregnancy?
2. Does this mean I'm gonna have another period for the month of December or I will have it next month?

Please respond. Thanks.

Hello Elen,

The vaginal bleeding which started on December 5 was probably breakthrough bleeding caused by taking Nordette. It means the pill worked and you are not pregnant.

Some women experience changes in their menstrual cycles as a side effect of taking the pill. Your next monthly period could start earlier or later than expected. Flow might be heavier or lighter than normal.

Any further concerns should be discussed with your gynecologist.

I found this on website. "Another cause is spotting during ovulation. This is due to a small release of blood from the ovary when the follicle breaks free. This too is harmless, normal, and nothing to worry about. If the egg is fertilized after ovulation, there may also be some spotting as it implants itself into the uterine lining."

- how true is that? If you were telling me I should not be pregnant, is there a bigger possibility that I am according to that thing on the website?

MY question is, is there any chance she could get pregnant.?

Hello Anonymous,

If your girlfriend had breakthrough bleeding, then she is not pregnant.

Hi! I’m Charles, Me and my GF had unprotected sex and she took ECP, that says you should take it within 5 days (exactly 120 hours) but my GF have taken the pills on the 5th day after we had unprotected sex , she took it 3 hours before the 120 hours is over.

My question is, it’s been 12 days since she took the ECP and yesterday Dec. 4, 2015 she had her period and Now Dec. 5, 2015 she notice a big blood clots during her the bleeding, her last period was Nov. 2, 2015. Is this her regular period or just the side effect of the ECP? My next question is Do you think she is still in the risk of pregnancy?

Thank you!

I took nordette 1hr after sex. Its 1pm, i took the second dose 7am which is 20hrs late from the prescribed 12hrs. Would it still be effective? I took the 1st 4 pills right after we had sex.

Hello Charles,

If your girlfriend is having vaginal bleeding with clots, she is definitely not pregnant. But, she should contact her gynecologist right away.

When was her period for December due? The bleeding could be her period or bleeding caused by taking the emergency contraceptive or both.

Regards,
Maryann
