To gain weight you need to mix protein foods with starchy carbohydrates as indicated below:

Good fat gaining combinations are breads, cereals, pasta, rice, corn, potatoes or sweet potatoes coupled with meat, poultry, eggs, nuts or sea food. Peanut butter snacks and cheese sandwiches are great weight gaining combinations. The actual protein in the above combos will help to gain extra muscle tissue.

I'm sorry to say I know how you feel. I'm 33 and I have a 7 year old son. I am 5'2 and I only weigh 95 lbs. I've tried the protien drinks, medication and other concoctions that didn't work. It also affects my self esteem which of course has a domino effect. I've tried to accept myself but it's hard. I also find it funny that "overweight" people can find clothes faster and easier than people that are "model" skinny =)

Hi Shafiya,

You mentioned not having a thyroid-- I'm not sure if you meant to say you didn't have a thyroid problem or you had your thyroid removed? If you had your thyroid removed sometimes not taking the medication will help gain some weight.

That being said, eating a healthy diet with added protein can help put on some weight. I know you mentioned taking protein shakes but perhaps you could also incorporate protein-rich foods such as eggs, cheese, peanut butter, yogurt as well as starchy and fibrous carbohydrates like breads, pastas, potatoes, cereals, and veggies.
Added calories will put on some weight. If you find that you continue to add calories to your diet and you still cannot put on any weight then you should visit your doctor for a complete evaluation.

Good luck!
